TKC READER: PARTY CHAIR MIKE SANDERS AND MISSOURI DEMOCRATS STAND UP FOR THE LGBT COMMUNITY!!!

Just posting this note for tonight . . . I don't know how this will play in Eastern Jack but it's interesting to see a powerful Kansas City politico becoming more and more tolerant every day . . . Check it:

A TKC READER CONGRATULATES JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE AND THE MISSOURI DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE FOR ADDING SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY TO THEIR NONDISCRIMINATION POLICY!!!

Take a look . . .

Missouri Democratic Party - FYI

Kudos to Mike Sanders, Democratic Party Chair for getting the Missouri Democratic Committee to add sexual orientation and gender identity to their bylaws at the Saturday, January 28th meeting.

I pointed out the fact that LGBT people were left out of the Democratic Party's bylaws nondiscrimination policy several weeks ago and they moved on it swiftly. It was way past time for this to happen - especially when we have 3 out gay members of the legislature and the gay community are asked to contribute and volunteer for Missouri Democrats.

Nice job Mike and Committee Members for passing the change unanimously! Changes in BOLD below.

SECTION 1.01 – We the members of the Democratic State Committee of Missouri, united in common purpose, dedicate ourselves to the historic principles which have sustained our party through the years to make it the oldest, sustained political party in America. We recognize that our members come from all economic levels of life within our state and represent every race, age (if of voting age), gender, religion, disability, economic status, sexual orientation, ethnic origin or gender identity in Missouri.

SECTION 2.03 – The Democratic Party of Missouri shall establish standards and rules of procedure to afford all members of the Democratic Party full, timely and equal opportunity to participate in the formation of policy and the conduct of other party affairs, without prejudice on the basis of race, age (if of voting age), gender, religion, disability, economic status, sexual orientation, ethnic origin or gender identity in Missouri, and further, to promote fair campaign practices and the fair adjudication of dispute.

  8. I am a dem, but wish we would get off the gay rights agenda - who cares- let's focus on what matters jobs, regulate wall street and banks, and raise taxes on the super wealthy.

I have lived a life of many wonders and privileges but my wonderful homosexual friends are the greatest of all my riches.

I can always count on them for good company, conversation and the most astute observations.

I don't know if you really support their cause or not Tony. But I believe that a real news source should always include the viewpoint of our Lesbian and Gay community.

These people set our trends and they define our culture. It's time we gave them our due and stopped pretending that so many of our leaders don't also utilize the skill of the gay population to their advantage.

More gays I say, we need a culture that has some refinement and dignity and letting these people participate openly is the first step in the right direction. Tomorrow I'm giving a local gay charity one of the first check that will total more than one hundred thousand dollars. I believe that it's a good investment in Kansas City's future and will help sustain the people whom I am proud to call my friends.

  12. I heard that gays and lesbians are smart, educated, have money (some of you) , not all of you,, butt (no pun intended) so why does the the majority of the GLTB ( sorry if I got the abbreve wrong I know the letters must be right,) community believe this political spin shit???,

These political people are only after your support and once they get your support, you and your lifestyle choices will far from matter to them. Us straight folks are used to it!

  13. Anon:12:12,

Of course, you are right, but that's politics. Gay people know that we're being courted. Any group with any savvy knows that they are being used to get votes. They use us, we use them. Welcome to democracy.
