The group notes two important facts: Around the nation, the results of Mayoral Takeovers of urban school districts are "mixed at best" AND Mayor Sly James replacing elected officials was deemed "outrageous" by the group's director.

ReplyDeleteSly would not be the superintendent. He would replace the board with himself and a 5-man posse. The current school board also does not act as the superintendent, but hires one, who then hires a CFO and a CAO, just as Sly is proposing for his version. So let's look at the current City Council make-up shall we...a minister, a former shop-keeper, a nail tech, the husband of a former council rep, a homemaker and former state rep, a grandmother, a former lawyer, etc., etc., etc., oh and the mastermind - lawyer mayor. Why does Sly think the school board is any worse than the city council? I guess because the school board is elected by central city residents?
