There's a deplorable myth in Kansas City that so many victims of local homicide somehow "deserved" to be killed because of their residence in the urban core or stereotypes about their activities. This is RARELY THE CASE and it's just another rhetorical device used to express the very real level or racism in this town.
However, residents of the urban core of every demographic know better.
To wit, some of the most astute news people and Northeast denizens are noting the victim or a recent homicide.
SO MANY PEOPLE TODAY ARE LAMENTING THE FACT THAT THE NORTHEAST "TAMALE MAN" WAS RECENTLY FOUND DEAD!!!
Again, it's important to note that Kansas City's murders aren't confined to any particular demographic and have a tragic impact on so many people in this town from all walks of life.

ReplyDeleteHe worked for Jim's Hot Tamales, and he also managed the Thrift Store. He sold tamales in front of the thrift store, not in the adjacent parking lot.
ReplyDeleteThe Hot Tamale Man sold them at first adjacent to the Thrift Shop on the parking lot and later- this year begin selling in front of the store after he begin working IN the Thrift Store. We bought many tamales and soda from him and conversated with him - a great guy and staple in the city. #disbelief

ReplyDeleteHowever, he was a nice guy and I am really sad to see he was murdered. He emobodied what most people in the ghetto don't -- police, hard working despite a lot of adversity. I never heard him complain or whine about anything. He never begged or asked for a handout. He was there next to his beat up suburban selling tamales every day I can remember when I worked over in the area.
It's just disgusting this happened to him.
