News regarding our local education fail is rather frustrating today.
First . . .
TAKE NOTE OF TODAY'S RE-BRANDING EFFORT FOR MORE THAN A GENERATION OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI PUBLIC EDUCATION FAILURE IN THE URBAN CORE!!!
The Kansas City Missouri School District is now Kansas City Public Schools.
To paraphrase Shakespeare or whoever really wrote the guy's plays . . . FAIL by another name still has the same crappy test scores.
And then . . . KC Public School Architect Arthur Benson speaks from the peanut gallery . . .
Benson: State Has No Plan To Run KC Schools
Interesting because that seems to imply that Kansas City, Missouri is working from a plan and that couldn't possibly be the case given the ongoing cycle of horrible test scores, violence, arson, corruption, high-profile & expensive administrative departures and an overall lack of confidence by students and parents who continue to want to live The District en masse.
Nevertheless . . .
Let's look at the arguments being developed to keep local control of Kansas City Public Schools.
I respect this rather informed look at the arduous process that awaits Kansas City:
"So, removing democratically elected officials in exchange for no plan and a track record of not producing positive results is better than our current scenario? I'd rather not cede the future of the district to backroom arrangements with the Civic Council, bypassing the input of the majority of Kansas Citians. And that's exactly what's been happening."
Now, I can respect this opinion because it stands up for voter representation.
But we all know what's coming . . .
GET READY FOR SOME RATHER AWESOME ALLEGATIONS OF RACISM AS CONTROL OF KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS WRESTLED AWAY FROM CURRENT POLITICOS AND ADMINISTRATORS!!!
It should be fun and I just wanted to be first (natch) to offer a preview into the horrible debate that we all know is coming soon.
It won't happen. Nobody wants KC Schools.
ReplyDeletenot really.
ReplyDeleteThese pigs are fighting over scraps in the trough, and Arthur Benson is the worst one. He has made $millions suing the district and doesnt even send his daughter to public school.
ReplyDeleteHe once said that the KCMSD students do not have the right to a good education, just an integrated one. Well, now they have neither. How does that make you feel Arthur?
Wouldn't that confuse people and students (especially during winter school closing) since there's already a "Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools"?
ReplyDeleteDistrict spokeswoman Eileen Houston-Stewart says the changes bring the district “closer to our families and the community we proudly serve.”
ReplyDeleteReally? ... ya think so?
Really?
Is that what passes for "righting the ship" around here?
The District is in a virtual death rattle, and the most noteworthy thing being done is to "re-brand"?
Holy shit ... just how much ARE these fools being paid?????
The verdict is in, and Airick West has been well and truly disgraced.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that the only people who support kansas city school district are those who stand to benefit the most from its failure. Teachers. Administrators. Consultants. Vendors. Politicians. Everybody but the people who actually pay taxes and then pay again to properly educate our children in private schools.
ReplyDeleteThis shows a complete and utter contempt for the law. The law is clear. If the district does not regain acreditation within two years, the state can take over.
Dissolve the district. Let people decide for themselves if education is important to them. It's important to me and I'm willing to pay for it. I do not want to pay for those who don't understand the value of education.
ReplyDeleteSome 12 school districts serve students living in Kansas City, Missouri. Park Hill School district has many schools in Kansas City, Missouri. They are a public school located in KCMO. This name change will tar the other districts with the ugly stick.
ReplyDeleteI think that's the idea. Everybody sinks along with the old KCMSD.
ReplyDeleteThey don't care about anybody.
Tony, that's a good picture. Illustrates the dysfunction that has plagued this schoold district for more than 30 years. I'm a living witness and graduate of this district. It's a wonder I've been able to thrive as I do. I did have some really good teachers amidst all of the bad ones. This district needs a takeover immediately. Sorry, black leaders you had your chance. I support this initiative. Wish we could do the same at the City government level. Children are being harmed there too.
