TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MISSOURI 39TH DISTRICT SPECIAL ELECTION IS NOW CONTESTED BY JAMIE BARKER LANDES!!!

Just for clarification, that's Larissa Riquelme watching a great soccer match and not a Kansas City politico . . . But I thought the visual image of a sporting contest was appropriate . . . Anyhoo

This morning on facebook Jamie Barker Landes announced:

"I have officially entered the race for Missouri State Representative for District 39, which includes the Kansas City neighborhoods of Westport, the Plaza, Hyde Park and Brookside. The special election will be held November 8, 2011. I would welcome and truly appreciate your support."

So, Kansas City Democrats don't get to just anoint Judy Morgan to this post.

Back to the contender, Landes (yet another) local lawyer and she's starting her campaign by talking schools and jobs.

Check out her facebook page for more details . . .

Landes For State Rep

Here's info for her Campaign Kickoff Party

What's interesting is that THE 39TH DISTRICT IS MOST CERTAINLY A KANSAS CITY DEMOCRAT STRONGHOLD that nobody even bothers to oppose most of the time . . . Now there's a challenger billing herself as an independent. Decide for yourself what her opposition to the status quo implies.

DEVELOPING . . .

  4. There is onlyt one party to blame for the woes of KCMO. That is a fact and not an opinion. Just think if elected officials in this area had to actually earn there seat by defeating another party. Oh well, I am sure many of you are convinced that a one party system is the way to go and will never change your mind.

  7. I'm glad to see a contest. Look at her facebbok page. She's smart, well educated, has good ideas, and obviously knows her stuff. Kudos to her, she's got my vote. And maybe if people concentrated more on the issues and less on the party we wouldn't be in the position our country is in now.

  15. Wait! Several Anonymous think its not important to vote for a progressive in the #39 district like Judy Morgan, past president of the teachers union? Check the Missouri House - 106 Conservative Republicans to 57 Democrats - no wonder we're a red state. MO needs Judy.

  18. She won't do any damage to Judy Morgan, but I can't say that I'm surprised someone is running against Judy.

Judy is not someone who will stand up and fight for the 39th district. She will go to Jeff City and vote alongside the Dems, but she isn't going to be a champion of any issue. She doesn't understand how the current politics of our state work.

I wish the Democratic Committee would have had the guts to nominate a true voice and potential champion - someone like Sarah Gillooly.

  19. Straight from her fb:

"We have unsustainably increased spending since 2001. It no longer matters whose fault it is. We have to fix structural imbalances between spending and revenues. Tax revenues have been stable over the past 60 years despite a wide range of tax increases/decreases, suggesting raising them won't raise much money. We have to cut spending on the items for which spending grows fastest: Medicare, Medicaid and Defense."

    This is no independent.
