TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! RESIDENT SPILLS IT: ONGOING WATER INFRASTRUCTURE MESS IS ONE MORE KANSAS CITY FAIL!!!

Some of the smartest people checking into TKC keep telling me that the ongoing water infrastructure hot mess will be the next issue that will define the destiny of Kansas City.
TKC FACT . . .
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE FAIL AND SOARING WATER RATES IN KANSAS CITY PROPER THREATEN TO REPLACE THE KCMSD AS THE MAIN REASON NOBODY WANTS TO LIVE IN THIS TOWN!!!
There have already been a rising tide of rate increases and the bills aren't as pretty as Kelly Brook . . . Even worse, the prices are only moving higher.
To add to all of this misery . . . Check a rather brilliant note about the current state of affairs for Kansas City Water Infrastructure and a complaint which sums up the problem quite nicely:
From Friday . . .
Ok, When?
Just noticed the water main break on Front street.
We've had MULTIPLE bond issues for "infrastructure" updates/upgrades/whatever.
I've been paying (grossly) elevated water bills for over a year now. Nice how they split the water bill in half and EACH of those is double what the old one used to be.
We continue to hear/see water dept employees sleeping on the job.
So my question is, when does all this wonderful infrastructure work start to kick in? They SHOULD have the money on hand and apparently the TIME to do it....
############
These complaints are growing . . . Add this level of frustration to the subject of privatization that seems to be back on the table and there might be a rather important Kansas City political fight resurfacing as this town does its best to tread water.
DEVELOPING . . .
Fix it.
ReplyDeleteI think we should just privatize it. We need some corporate barrons to take over our water system and really hold us hostage so that the share holders are getting enough in returns on their investment.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, Kansas City, we need to sell our public utility to a group out of town corporation. Maybe my water bill will then look like my Verizon bill.
Privatize it! The water department is a mess and has been since the Cleaver years. Barnes ran on a promise to privatize it during her terms, but ran into a big union fight with local 500. She dropped the issue and no politico in this town has been willing to take it on since then. It is long over due!!! The Water Department is the biggest money pit in this town.
ReplyDeleteDid some work at the water dept.
ReplyDeleteCan't blame this on white boys.
No white people there.
We hung Plasma TVs there.
Don't ask, I have no idea why.
I guess it coulda been work related.
There is big money in this corporate take over attempt of the water department and they have no doubt hired PR slime to influence this issue.
ReplyDeleteIt is like Social Security. Do you really want wall street to take it over? This is nothing but a money grab.
Show me successful privatization of a water department.
All they are going to do is cut the workforce and raise your bill.
Just go to the 22nd floor at city hall late in the day and take a look at the visitors'log to see who's been pinging on the councilmembers. Cathy Nugent and the water privatizers are ther about more than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteSame old insider game, verse 1357.
Exactly why the police dept should NOT go under city control. This city is a shit hole.
ReplyDeleteThe combined SEWER plan has nothing to do with water main breaks (supply). It only deals with where the water goes after you flush (to keep the poo out of the storm sewers, which let the rain flow back into the creeks and river to prevent flooding).
ReplyDeleteFYI,
ReplyDeleteKansas City is a water wholesaler and sells about half of its water to the suburbs. Parts of Johnson County, Raytown, other communities buy Kansas City's water. The suburbs are going to pay for this old infrastructure too, not just KCMO. (The other big area water wholesalers are KCK and Independence)
Russ Johnson wants to sell or privatize every asset the city has. He better be put down fast or he'll succeed with the city losing both of it's "enterprise" zones. KCI and Water.
ReplyDeletePolice Department needs to be under local control.
ReplyDeleteAll you really need to do is hire someone to make sure they are not sleeping on the job.
ReplyDeleteWater department is the worst untility i have ever dealt with. I have not spoken to one white person there. I also get the same response to my questions. The supervisor has yet to return my call 3 weeks ago.
ReplyDeletei am still reciveing a bill for a house i have not owned for three years
The guy who led the fight against Barnes even exploring privatization at the Water Dept was Terry Riley, at the time a State Rep. Now he works for American Water along with Nugent and is pushing to privatize that same Department. He is clearly violating the city's ordinance against former council members lobbying the City for one year. He is trying to hide behind his stooge, Councilman Mike Brooks.
ReplyDeletePrivatization is a stupid idea, but the lazy-ass Water Department employees and their hamstrung supervisors are making it awfully easy to start rooting for a takeover.
ReplyDeleteNugent is a crook and liar. She wears FBI wires on her friends...
ReplyDelete4:00... a crook and a liar, which makes her the perfect buddy for Terry Riley, as they have so much in common.
ReplyDeleteMaybe when the new mayor gets done fundraising he'll have time to look into this.
ReplyDeletewhy am I not surprised that Riley is working to sell out the water dept.?
ReplyDeleteThis is a stupid fucking idea!
New management needed there. They keep promoting the same old school managers. THIS is the problem. Wake up.
ReplyDeleteNeed to focus on the fact that KCMO Water Department employees are lazy f*cking do nothing's. Look at the pending deferred maintenance costs and ask if you trust these idiots with $3 billion. Either clean house or sell it.
