TKC CONFIRMED!!! BUT IS THE KANSAS CITY ARTS INCUBATOR SHUTDOWN A CONSPIRACY OR JUST COMPETITION?!?!

Last week TKC Broke the news of Arts Incubator harsh times leading the place to close for good . . . Over the weekend, mainstream media picked up the story.

More importantly . . .

THERE'S NOW A QUESTION OF CONSPIRACY AMONG THE DENIZENS OF THE KANSAS CITY ART SCENE!!!

There's a lot of guessing and blame being cast about "who called the inspectors?" and who stands to gain by so many recent Crossroads crackdowns . . . On the other hand, competition among nearby venues is rumored to be cutthroat . . . In any case, the only thing that's assured is that life just got a little harder for so many local artists hustling their work in one less venue.

WTF? Does it really matter "who called the inspectors?" If the Arts Incubator was unsafe, it should be fixed or shut down, period. Would you prefer the roof collapsed during a 500 guest wedding, or the floor gave out? Then Tony would be bitching about how the city doesn't do enough for building code safety. He would still make some labored point about how the city doesn't care about local artists.

  3. No this is not logical but some people think this way7/11/11, 7:23 AM

Let me guess: Someone dropped the dime in order to embarrass and ruin Theresa Garza Ruiz -- just like everything else bad that happens from the viewpoint of Theresa Garza Ruiz?

Everything revolves around Theresa Garza Ruiz!

Good God. You want an example of unsafe substandard construction rat's nest of artist studios/crash pads? Go look at the upper floors of Leedy's buildings. And the city gives him fucking awards and makes it Jim Leedy day and calls him the father of the Crossroads.

  5. @6:17, I agree that regardless the Incubator (and any business open to the public) needs to be safe and up to code, but there is a shady business man out there going around trying to get any competition he can put out of business. I guarantee you it's not out of his concern for peoples safety but out of greed.

  6. Losing the Arts Incubator while simultaneously seeing the last flight of the Space Shuttle. Coincidence?

One relic getting mothballed and the other relic getting ball-and-gagged. Coincidence?

Artists are able to show most 2-d artworks. Set up your easel in front of and in the alley behind The Keyhole. C'mon now. Tony has seen it. I invite any displaced artist to set up an easel in the alley, and on the street.

Bring it if you think it is worth a damn! You have TO MAKE ROOM FOR YOURSELVES if you are going to survive.

Help push back against the gentrification, or shut the fuck up and quit whining about "your precious" being lost.

As a group of people insisting on being heard and seen we cannot be stopped.

  7. @ JW, what the fuck crawled up your ass? I've seen a few of your posts on this matter and you really seem to have no idea what you are talking about.

Who obviously does not share his parent's much publicized support of the arts. Perhaps upset over his failed engagement to a member of the Tutera family.

  9. I may have no idea what I am talking about (re: 1:00pm)but I have the balls to put my name on my statements.

What I do know is that people are concerned over artists not having enough opportunity to show artworks. Well, cry me a river, baby.

I am saying that in lieu of any other alternative I offer everything I have to the artists of KC. I do my all to open a space on First Friday, in The Crossroads.

Who is doing more than that? Name them? I charge nothing, I only offer people an opportunity to show their work to the masses.

Whoever you are, my anonymous "friend", the only thing you do for KC art is bicker and gripe. Get off your ass *and support the arts* by buying some of it.

    Seriously, some peoples kids....

  10. The fire chief told me the Arts Incubator instigated the inspection themselves. They hired the structural engineer and closed voluntarily when the report came back. They did the right thing and unfortunately the building isn't safe. MJ
