Strangely, there's a lot of Kansas City news about big money water moves at City Hall as of late.
Water is the last, cheap natural resource and that's obviously not going to last very long. To wit, Kansas City Water Services is now in play and another company is hoping to make a deal with local politicos.
Formerly, Kansas City political denizen Bill George and his French buddies (sacré bleu!) seemed to be poised to make a splash by taking over beleaguered Kansas City Water Services.
NOW AMERICAN WATER HAS PEOPLE AT CITY HALL LOOKING FOR AN INSIDE TRACK TO TAKE OVER RUNNING KANSAS CITY'S MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE!!!
We hear local GOP Lady Cathy Nugent is consulting and trying to get this water company the local hookup.
For the moment, Water Services still doesn't have a permanent director AND it's basically the place where careers go to die at City Hall. There's a lot of talk about privatizing this service but the myth that privatization always saves money and runs more efficiently has been COMPLETELY BUSTED UPON FURTHER REVIEW!!!
Still, it's important for residents to know that their most precious resources is currently in play and a political game of Marco Polo is soon to make waves in this town.

ReplyDeleteBurns & Mac is hovering in wait too. Don't bank on it (or the airport) happening. There are scores of horror stories all over the media about how bad these deals work out. Indianapolis paid $27,000,000 to throw Veolia out and take their water department back.
ReplyDeleteIf you chose which departments to privatize by the total lack of effectiveness, accomplishment, and accountability, why not start with the police?
ReplyDeleteOf course, in KCMO, if keeping your job was based on performance, you could just fire everybody and privatize the whole thing!
KCMO Water services is the worst department i have ever delt with. I am still waiting for a supervisor to call me back(going on six days) and i recieve a water bill every month for a house i no longer own and have not since 2009. I have called and tried to get it taken care of but they cant figure it out. Terrible customer service and hateful people answer the phone (after being on hold for 20 mins)..fire them all

Ya know, MOST of my COMMENTARY is about our local SPORTS, but it's come to MY ATTENTION, and i'm NOT making this up folks, that City Hall is playing HARD ball with WATER BALLOONS!!! now, i know what you're thinking... this has NOTHING to do with sports, but yes it DOES. JUST as much as throwing HOT POTATOES! The BIG question is, WHO's PITCHING and WHO's batting! AND... who is going to get ALL WET in this. And that's JACK'sSMACK!!

ReplyDeleteI knew we were in trouble when the water department hired their own public relations firm a few years ago. It should be against the law for a public entity to hire a private firm to do public relations. (Bottomline might disagree...)
ReplyDeleteIf the water department opens a hole in the street near your house, depend on that hole being there a while. Basically, as George Carlin once said, they dig a hole so they will have some place to stand around and eat lunch.

What NuGeorge are selling is the idea that selling the water system is the best and most politically innocuous way to get some "free" money to implement the EPA-mandated CSO project.
