Euphoria swept over the crowd last night while watching Kansas City mayoral election returns. As if they were achieving long, forgotten multiple orgasms . . . Middle-aged women shrieked with delight as the victory of Sly James was annoucned. If you don't know what it's like to see a middle-aged woman climax, that's your loss.
What was missing from last night's party and the vast majority of the campaign season was any semblance of a plan for Kansas City's future. Sly James was able to avoid any real answers on important questions with jokes and deference to the many local power brokers who kept writing him checks.
While I don't ever think the jokes should stop . . . Here are just a few ways that Sly James will FAIL in his next term as Kansas City keeps chuckling.
SLY JAMES WILL BE TORN IN HALF BY THE NORTHLAND AND THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN THE UPCOMING REDISTRICTING FIGHT!!!
He's either a sellout or an Eastside Mayor. So far the only compromise we've had is to disenfranchise the Northeast . . . That trick isn't going to work the second time around.
THE DOWNTOWN HOTEL WILL KILL ANY SLY JAMES CREDIBILITY ON FINANCIAL ISSUES!!!
The New/Veteran City Council already has Mayor James outgunned and outplayed on this one . . . Sly James either goes along for the ride or becomes an enemy of the City Council . . . That route didn't do Mayor Funky much good and Sly James in the passenger seat on this deal that will help to kill Kansas City finances just isn't the right look.
ONGOING MURDER RATE AND EDUCATION FAIL WILL DESTROY ANY SLY JAMES CONNECTION WITH THE URBAN CORE!!!
The promise of The Covington Administration is now nothing more than an urban legend. Sly James didn't articulate any plan to stop local violence and murder and he had even less to say about the failing KCMSD. These problems won't get any better because Sly James has an impressive resume and long list of achievements. In fact, a Sly James Administration leaves no one to blame as the School District Disaster continues and the death toll doesn't seem to want to stop for anyoe.
Finally . . .
MACROECONOMIC U.S. FAIL WILL BRING DOWN THE SLY JAMES ADMINISTRATION BECAUSE THERE'S SIMPLY NO KANSAS CITY MONEY FOR ANY IMPROVEMENTS!!!
Mayor Funky's career was sacrificed to The Great Recession. Now we're in 3 wars, the dollar remains in an overall state of decline, gas prices steadily increase and talk of China as the NEW superpower isn't just Time Magazine speculation. The budget is limited, tax credits and help form the feds will be even harder to find. Sly James is the newest captain of a ship with no wind in its sails and floundering on putrid, still waters. History shows us that people with no cash succumb to mutiny just a little bit faster.
On the bright side, Sly James will be quicker to understand that none of this is personal and his doomed Mayoral tenure doesn't have much to do with him, in much the same way he won office in the first place.

Money can't buy good leadership, but that's where all the votes went. Congratulations to the suburbs and Kansas, you were the only real winners yesterday. The Kansas City decline continies.

Personally, I don't think every vote before the council needs to be judged as a win/loss for the mayor.
I'm for less power by a mayor and more power for a council... but I think the city manager form of government can work. Just how much staff does a mayor need unless he thinks of himself as the city king.

You're right Tony. The return of Russ, Ed, Cindy and Jan is a venomous group. Jan used to be different and Sharp can be independent but overall these people can play it about as mean and dirty as any Council in history. Oh, Melba... don't forget her. Still the dumbest Council person in KC history.

10:58: That's so unfair to the many other dumb people who have been elected to the KC Council. What about Saundra McFadden-Weaver, Mary Williams Neal, good ol' boy Chuck Weber, or even (except on the budget, where apparently she was an "expert") Deb Hermann and Cindy Circo (who I actually like in spite of her dumbness)? Placing Melba at the apex of the dumb pyramid really does a disservice to all those who have striven mightily in the field of dumbness.

Instead of looking to elected officials to change things in the 3rd, I wish the PEOPLE in the 3rd (e.g. leaders like Alonzo Washington) would take it upon themselves to do something about the attitudes and community standards in the 3rd District that allows and actively promotes all the nonsense in the black culture (e.g. violence, gang activity, promiscuity).

ReplyDeleteI watched a documentary last night on Hernandez v Texas. Its because of this unreasoning hatred that they were given 'protected class' status by the Supreme Court. Where does this hatred come from? It comes from knowing that you're wrong & refusing to admit it. We waged unprovoked war against Mexico & stole land from them. We've needed to hate them ever since. Same with the blacks. They are hated because they used to be OUR slaves & we won't admit that we were wrong.
