Kemet Coleman Raps For Sly James

Interesting bit of Kansas City election news this afternoon: Local rapper Kemet Coleman has dedicated a tune to Mayoral Candidate Sly James.

Strange thing is, as far as political songs go, it's pretty good:

Sly James for Mayor song

Is it as gully as "My President is Black" produced in the hopeful days of the Obama Administration? Maybe not but I'd be very surprised if any other Kansas City Mayoral candidate earned a hip-hop dedication.

  1. Who? Yeah, exactly.

  2. Nice gesture from the artist Sly won't get mainstream voter numbers with a Rap song as his anthem though.

    IMO

  3. I'm no fan of rap music but this is pretty catchy. I like it. It seems Sly has made some connections with young blacks and the arts community. Maybe he is truly the Mayor that can cross over on all levels and bridge the plethoric division within our city...?

  5. Incredible song, I challenge any other candidate to get support like this. It truly shows that there are believers in Sly James, shows how much sly is loved in this city.

  6. The song is meaningless, but these comments show what kind of fanboys can astroturf the comments with their political crap.

Too bad its as transparent as lead.

  9. To bad you had to write your own comments. You do not speak for artist' What has done for the artists better yet the community?

  10. I am impressed that Sly is gaining traction in an area many said he had no ties. Obama gained attention from various artists which helped his cause. Is Sly silently galvanizing the black community?

  11. Interesting, catchy, even inspiring, but will it get the black vote out let alone the artist community?
