TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! 3RD DISTRICT CANDIDATE JONAS HUGHES RESPONDS TO CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORTING ISSUE AND BLAMES EMBATTLED KANSAS CITY CONSULTANTS!!!

Here's the response from NEW 3rd District Candidate Jonas Hughes regarding important campaign finance reporting errors pointed out first on this blog.

Hughes claims that responsibility for the error rests with local political consulting firm RGC . . . A company that has stumbled upon harsh times as of late.

Here's the statement I received from a source that is affiliated with the Hughes Campaign for the 3rd District but not yet on staff:

"I hired Danny Powell and RGC (Regional Growth Consultants) To handle my campaign and finance reports. Obviously there were errors I was unaware of and so they are being corrected.

"I am no longer with their firm and apologize for any errors. Typically, my opponents want to focus on something other than results for Kansas City.

"I am speaking to other consultants with the advice of those I trust and look forward to my campaign" -- Rep. Leonard Jonas Hughes IV

Now, already I've had more than a few calls and interest in the Hughes campaign. Overall, there's the notion that he's better suited to run in the 3rd than for the Mayoral Race given his high-profile family name and connections within the 3rd. In the final analysis . . . The 3rd District Races are the most important in Kansas City and this move brings an even greater spotlight to this critical election.

  1. Danny Powell and Chris Benjamin have no background to be politcal consultants, just like Chris Moreno, they are idiots!

  2. And so is the idiot who would hire them.

  3. Jonas Hughes seems like a thoughtful person. This is going to be the best move he has ever made and Kansas City will benefit greatly should he be City Councilman.

  4. I have never heard of a candidate who did not look at their campaign finance reports.

    Let the lies begin.

This is pathetic. I would like to hear from RGC. Generally, there is a campaign treasurer that is on record. Let's see what the campaign disclosures say.

  5. Jonus blaming someone else again for his lack of taking care of business. Bad Checks, unpaid bills, and now it is someone else's fault for his reports.

Why would anyone hire on to do his reporting? He doesn't pay any of his bills.

Obviously his immaturity got the best of him in a tight situation and he can't own up to his mistakes. Now he is disgracing the Hughes name. What a pity.

  6. Nice work Danny Powell (7:56) attacking the Hughes family. A consultant that makes errors and doesn't take the blame is a bad consultant.

    ReplyDelete
  7. And when did he fire RGC? Before he filed the report?

It does not matter who fills out the report. The treasurer signs it and the candidate is responsible.

  8. This is a stupid argument that there are problems with the report anyway. They're not financial concerns. It's the address that is being called into question and that is filed when the committee is originally started. I don't see where there are any expenditures being shown to RGC either.

  9. Is jonas running for Mayor or Council ? If council he could form an alliance with Mike Brown in the 6th at large. Brown also has serious financial problems. It could be a slogan---double your money with Mike and Jonas. Forward Kansas City up north, Deb Hermann's group, could double back and endorse Hughes in the 3rd at large.

  10. It looks like they didn't do much for Jonas. They didn't raise him money. It is probably a good thing he left them. If they don't perform their duties then they are not worth it.

  11. Fletcher good job reporting now what? Be careful swinging dirt goes both ways. You can buy certain people including clergy, press but you can not buy the truth!

  12. In 6 years on the legislature, can any of you Hughes supporters or you, Jonas show me one bill that he passed or one amendment that he passed.

Word in JC is that Hughes is generally regarded as a lazy, buffoon who sported a mohawk last year at the capitol.

  13. Poor RGC... looks like they can't handle big city politics. This is not the first time they made a huge mistake in a campaign (remember Scavuzzo's mailers coming all in the same day...3 of them!). They are unorganized, unprofessional, and unqualified. Also, too busy going after everyone else.

  14. Atleast he lives in KCMO and not in Long Beach Ca.

  15. Who are you not only will I sHow you but I will bring it to you Pat Clarke personal delivery!

  16. This is not a money thing...his report from NOVEMBER 2, 2010 shows his residence is outside of the 3rd...it is the same address that shows on every report going back to 2008...did Danny work for Jonas that long?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Mike Fletcher get off the blogs and try to do something productive with your time. I hear The Governator has problems in California you should help fix since you live there.

Democrats don't get to pass bills, but he has some interesting ideas. A smaller body like city council will provide an opportunity for Jonas to grow up and get some things accomplished. Trust me, even with all his flaws, he is the best candidate in the race.

  19. The Democrats were in the minority. That is a weak argument against Jonas. The only reason why anyone supported Fletcher to begin with is because he was running against Sharon. Now there is a viable option and his base is leaving his crazy self.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 10:24..that someone supporting a crack head like Jonas Hughes would call someone "crazy" is crazy...his own reports show he does not live in the district.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Crack head is right ran into him on the plaza was wacked. You can't get high and do reports and pass laws. He is ruining the good Hughes name.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Do him a favor and vote against him so he can get clean.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just what this town needs; yet another political candidate who needs "consultants' to tell them what to think, what to do, and what to make believe they are!
Do these people have their consultants follow them into the bathroom, just to make sure?
    Goodbye KCMO!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hate you tell you this, but KCMO is not exactly "big city politics"!
In fact, it's mostly D-list celebrities and wannabes!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jonas Hughes is LYING about everything...I wonder what Danny Powell says about this.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Danny nobody cares. Move on. It was an address. Focus on winning the races you are already losing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 10:26 (Fletcher) don't be so obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rumor has it that Jason Grill and other possible dems, moderate repubs, and pr types might open up a full service consulting, fundraising, pr, govt affairs, & political firm. I think this would be a huge thing for KC with the lack of talent right now...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Grill should help jonas raise money and run his mail. It would be a winnable race and a good test to see if he can transfer his effort when he is not the candidate. It would be unwise to underestimate the power of narcissism in providing fuel for action. If grill can do it then he certainly knows how to do it. But can he do it?
