CITIZENS ASSOCIATION REVOLT!!! PORREVECCHIO RESIGNATION CASTS A CLOUD OVER MAYORAL ENDORSEMENT!!!

Longtime Member Dan Porrevecchio didn't like the process from The Citizens Association during this whole Mayoral debate hot mess . . . Chris Hernandez reported the story on NBC Action News . . .

However . . . KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS HAVE PORREVECCHIO'S LETTER OF RESIGNATION!!!

Interestingly enough, Porrevecchio isn't a fan of Mayor Funky, just somebody who really respects the Democratic process.

NOW THERE'S TALK OF A WIDE SPREAD ABANDONMENT OF THE CITIZENS ASSOCIATION OVER MAYORAL DEBATE AND ENDORSEMENT PROCESS!!! OTHER MEMBERS ARE TALKING ABOUT ABANDONING SHIP AS WELL!!!

Here's the letter . . .

Cheryl Bisbee

Chairman

Citizens Association

Cheryl:

It was an honor to be appointed to Chair the Candidate Screening Committee for this election season. The opportunity to showcase the Mission of good government this organization represented was taken to heart. So I was a bit surprised when you rejected the opportunity to have a televised debate among the candidates for Mayor.

After that, as work progressed on this committee, I found myself in fundamental disagreement with the process that would govern this year’s screening of Mayoral candidates. It was a significant departure from my experience with Citizens Association screenings over the past 15 years. My concerns were brought to your attention more than once, but they were overruled.

Our charter states that we are dedicated to providing careful and thorough screening of candidates for Mayor and City Council. I don’t believe those standards have been applied faithfully in this mayoral screening process, and I have made my position known to you on several occasions.

I also do not believe our screening process has been inclusive and transparent, and I cannot abide what I believe to be a compromise of principle. Therefore, I am resigning my position with the Citizens Association effective immediately.

Sincerely,

Dan Porrevecchio

Vice Chairman, 5th District

By the way, Mike Burke won the endorsement from the Citizens Association Directors and it now goes to the Board of Governors . . . Which isn't really as interesting as all of the hot mess that preceded the decision.

  1. If this is all you're going to write about until February - fuck this.

  2. Cheryl is a lawyer from northeast who could care less about our city. It's about her choice Mike

  3. bad decision guys.

  4. I hope each of the other candidates has their own "Cheryl" to cherrypick questions in a debate and advocate for them behind closed doors.

  5. Leave Cheryl ALONE!

You guys could not do a better job.

  8. Wow - Citizens picked yet another loser. They have quite a gift. I have to give them a little credit for staying in the game after the shame of picking Jim Glover in the last mayoral election.

  9. I don't think other members of Citizens will "jump ship" over the process. I *DO* think other members will jump ship over the endorsement the 'process' created. Cheryl wanted Mike, Cheryl got her wish. If Cheryl also wanted every influential member to leave; (poof) that will likely be granted as well. More likely, Cheryl bought the lie of the monkey's paw (tee-hee). Maybe Mike will put in enough of his own cash to keep the organization relevant. Good luck. If Mike wins, so did Cheryl. If Mike loses, maybe Kansas City wins. Sorry and so long Citizens.

  10. I don't know why candidates bothered to show up and lend credibility to them in the first place. Every person who knows CA well knew months ago that Burke had it in the bag. Hermann told me she had it in the bag and I almost laughed out loud because she actually seemed to believe it. Ask Porrevecchio more questions and you will find out that Cheryl, Joe and crew were afraid that certain candidates might come across better than Mike and they did not want them there last night. They couldn't exclude all the front runners so they let Deb, Jim, Sly speak but this was a sealed deal from the get-go. Now it will be a floor fight to see who can get the most general members to vote with them. The show isn't over. In the end, they will use all their energy to get an endorsement they will pay big bucks for.

  11. Porrevechhio sold out the Little Blue Valley homes association by taking money and endorsing a huge development of the Stephensons Apple Orchard. So long Dan.

  12. Dan is a stand up guy. We are lucky to have him represent our neighborhoods in the Little Blue Valley. He has more ability to get votes than this organization because we know when Dan looks at candidates he has done so with fairness and honesty. I can see him resigning over this for sure.

  13. Cheryl abused her position to endorse Burke. Now the endorsement is divided it means nothing.

  14. 6:37, Citizens endorsement never meant much to anybody. They never pick a winner, they're a joke.

  15. At least these are people who vote. I am waiting for the "Inner City Crack Whore PAC." Inner city folk DO NOT VOTE, that is why the Brookside and suburban areas hold more sway.

  16. How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
With all the problems that KCMO has and the challenges that are quickly coming over the hill, some story about the process of some obscure organization of self-appointed arbiters of taste is about as relevant as fly to the moon.
What are the prioirties and proposals of each mayoral candidate?
This is an important election, not "Dancing with the Stars"!
    What a joke!
