TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MAYOR FUNKY BLASTS KANSAS CITY PORT AUTHORITY MEMBERS AND THROWS INSULTS!!!

More analysis later . . . I just wanted to make sure TKC readers got the memo first.

ONCE AGAIN MAYOR FUNKY IS ON AN INSULT HURLING RAMPAGE . . . THIS TIME DIRECTED AT THE PORT AUTHORITY!!!

Check it Mayor Funky's pout-y letter to Clyde McQueen regarding The Port Authority . . . Emphasis is mine:

"I feel compelled to write today in order to do what I can to highlight the dangerous situation the City and the Economic Development Corporation are in regarding recent actions by the Port Authority and its agents.

"I fear we are on the verge of a legal mess that will embarrass EDC and the City, halt any activity on the part of the Port Authority and jeopardize the EDC’s financial stability. The latter would harm EDC’s progress on any number of fronts, not the least of which is LCRA’s proposed role in solving the city’s housing asset woes.

"The Port Authority has been spending significant amounts of money this year – more than $100,000 for lobbying; $51,000 for consultants, and $420,163 for Bill Sessions’ legal work.

"Some of these expenses, no doubt, are being incurred for legitimate purposes. But I know much of that money is being spent in order to facilitate a break from its connection to EDC, a break that we agree shouldn’t be facilitated by EDC or the City until the questions regarding the membership of the board are answered.

"Trey Runnion and Mike Sturgeon, neither appointed by the Mayor as the law requires, are squatters who are inappropriately holding on to their volunteer seats. As such, I believe they could be held personally liable for any inappropriate activities going on. There is significant circumstantial evidence that inappropriate activities are going on."

These insults and allegations from Kansas City's Mayor are a pretty big deal directed at local finance dudes . . . I'm guessing they might not take it laying down. However, Mayor Funky's complaining would be a lot better served if his answer to the problem wasn't George Blackwood and included working with the Council instead of just caustic statements.

Developing . . .

  1. If Funk wasn't so clueless, he'd realize Mike Sturgeon is one of the few remaining dudes in this town with integrity and the Port Authority is lucky to have his volunteer assistance and leadership. Dump the Funk for his complete lack of common sense. Sturgeon, If you get booted from Port Authority, you should turn around and run for council. You'd have a lot of support.

  2. Sheesh for a second there a thought I was going to be reading . . .

"The Port Authority has been spending significant amounts of money this year – more than $100,000 for golf; $51,000 for Vegas trips, and $420,163 for personal expenses, new cars, and office remodels at the house."

  3. Bill Sessions is a Grade A douchebag. BTW, didn't Funky give Sessions the Port Authority's business? And now he's raping the city with fees?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Frack Mayor Franky er Funky, did the spend more than the city did for your wifes lawsuit? You need to shut the hell up and collect the last years salary.

    ReplyDelete
  5. his wife is embarrassing the city and costing the city just as much.

  6. Forget that I never agree with anything else. Fact is this lawyer Session IS raping the taxpayer.

When the City's own attorney is saying that Runnion and Session have NO AUTHORITY to spend this money, this wild spending HAS TO STOP!

Its time to call the Missouri's Attorney General Koster to have him star investigating! No more play money from taxpayers for Runnion and Session.

  7. Serious stuff. I NEVER agree with Funk but this junk has to stop. If he can actually do something about it than more power to him.

  9. If you look at all the successes in economic development that KCK has had in the last few years, you'll find that they don't have all of these publically-funded quasi-independent organizations like the Port Authority, EDC, TIF Commission, Industrial Expansion Authority, and all the rest of the KCMO menagerie. KCMO's operation is designed to give as much access to developers as possible and to offer opportunities for as many behind-the-scenes deals as it can before the proposals ever even get to the elected officials. And, at the end of the day, NO ONE can really be held responsible for the results, because it's impossible to tell where one hand leaves off and the other begins.
On the other hand, KCK has a trim, transparent, and public process in which the elected officials are involved at almost every step along the way. More expeditious, businesslike, transparent, and successful.
Look at how the two cities handled the Wizards' stadium.
KCMO is set up to fail.

  10. Boy, the Co-mayor should know a legal train wreck when he sees one.He hasnt stopped one yet. Funk, get out of the way of progress.

  11. Did Beaufort actually do some legal analysis or did he just agree with Funky as a political expediency?

I hear he can not pick a side and stick with it.

Goody, Glad you brought up the Wizard fiasco!
    Hot Damn!
MARK FUNKHOUSER'S SEXUAL ESCAPADE WITH HIS WIFE IN FRONT OF CERNER BUSINESS MEN COST US THE WIZARDS.

FACT: squit sat on funk'd's lap and messed around with him during the business meeting at their dumpy house. The businessmen were just as grossed out as TKC!
KCMO had a whole lot of time to close the Wizard's deal, but funk'd kept putting off any action until he could get his creepy family back into city hall.

THAT'S HOW WE LOST THE WIZARDS.

    stfu funk'd.

  13. Smacks of election politics to me! Probably timed it to make himself look like a good guy... but Friday news is usually not the best day to do it. People aren't paying attention!

  14. I bet Bill Sessions is not running up the bill like Mike Burke did when he had that attorney gig for 10 years. That is why the Funk is hoping he makes it to the General Election, which is looking more likely, and Burke is his opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Burke ran up big bills but Sessions has run up bills even larger. Beaufort is a weak jerk who couldn't form a legal opinion at gunpoint. Watch Galen screw up the MAST pension issue.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Galen screws up every legal issue he touches.

He should go back to defending 19-year chicks he picks up at Hooters.

At least he brings some passion to that.

  17. I'd like to revisit toadstool watcher's comment above.

(S)he is correct in describing the reasons Cerner chose KCK for the site of the Wizards stadium AND the eventual 20,000 jobs in their new office building.

The businessmen from Cerner, a company that competes globally, had to meet w/ Funk at his home office (Gloria was still banished from City Hall) and were forced to witness the co-mayors behaving in a manner unlike that expected from the leader(s) of a major municipality. No surprise the Cerner execs left in disgust and turned to KCK/WyCo.

20,000 jobs and a new stadium head across the state line and the Bannister Mall site sits empty.

What a pair of clueless, classless assholes....

  18. And Please Turn Out the Lights10/30/10, 7:08 AM

Just like in poker, the winners always say, "Let's quit", and the losers say. "Deal".
And the whole metro gets so tired of hearing all the whining about missing out on economic development opportunities from poor old loser KCMO.
It's the state of Kansas; it's state line; it's unfair; it's this or that.
Behavior has consequences and other folks, be they businesses or other cities in the metro, don't want to be part of a dysfunctional embarrassing mess like KCMO city government.
I wish the new administration well, but it will take many years, if ever, to change the image of 12th and Oak from that of a swirling mess of egos, personalities, consultants, contractors, ethnic extortionists, and assorted hangers-on into a competent business-like organization that anyone else wants to shake hands with.

  19. It's good to see the city and it's officials act as good stewards of my 1%.

And they want me to vote no on A for what reason?
