The Star's Kevin Collison documents a disturbing trend and starts off his story by noting KeyBank Real Estate Capital's recent decision to relocate from downtown to the Sprint Nextel campus.
Neither the P&L District nor The Sprint Center were enough to keep these local jobs within the loop and it's looking like a the big business departure from the urban core continues unabated and despite so many expensive (taxpayer funded) schemes.
So far, the arguement that abolishing the E-Tax might save us from this trend not only discounts the disastrous impact the move will have on local revenues but also is just one of many local suggestions suburbanites use in order to convince this town to commit financial suicide.

KC government has wasted our Tax Dollars .. Poor and expensive City services, crime through the roof, wasted Taxpayer backed investments and subsidized bid business that has ruined small business owners in KCMO.
ReplyDeleteVOTE against any new Taxes.
If I ran a business, neither the P&L District, not the Sprint Center would have anything to do with where I located it. In fact, traffic and parking for my customers and employees are probably made worse by both of them.
ReplyDeleteThe Sprint campus is largely vacant, the rent rates are good, it's easy to get to, and is surrounded by restaurants and stores.
Oh; and I can't remember the last time there was a rolling gun fight within a coule blocks of it! And Overland Park plows snow and fixes roads, and....well you get the idea!
Hey if I'm a business I want the same incentives(welfare) as the Royals and Chiefs. Buildings paid for, utilities paid for, management paid for to operate the buidings that taxpayers have paid for. You get the picture. The E-tax has nothing to do with it because my employees would be paying that.
ReplyDeleteThe E-tax is a factor in these moves. Everyone knows it. Not the whole story. Crime, lousy services, etc., play a big part.

ReplyDeleteTheir existing building is surrounded by restaurants, is easy to get to, and I can't remember there ever being a rolling gun battle anywhere near it in the 8 years I've worked nearby.
There's far more traffic at Nall & BFE than there ever is near the Commerce Tower.
Take your JoCo propaganda and stick it where it belongs.
Employers chose Johnson County because that's where their employees live. Who wants to drive an hour to get downtown and pay $50 a month to park when you drive 15 minutes and park free?
ReplyDeleteNot only that the KCPD will probably give you a couple of traffic tickets each year, especially if you drive a nice car with JoCo tags.
Now you add all that to the hassles of dealing with an inept and corrupt KCMO and its a wonder anyone locates downtown.
Let's all just stop and take time to consider Larissa's fine little ass.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just thought of something.
ReplyDeleteWe all agree that the E-tax is not a problem for the success and growth of KCMO.
And we all agree that KCMO needs more money.
The solution is obvious: We double the earnings tax!
KCMO immediately begins to outpace Johnson County is growth and all our problems are solved!
For people earning over $250,000, let's triple the earnings tax! Salvation for KCMO is at hand!!
ReplyDeleteand very few NON-WORKING NIGGS
