TKC hinted at this one yesterday . . . And now it's underway. Here's the important part of a presser:
"A formal letter to members of the AFL-CIO and media, asking the Greater KC AFL-CIO to rescind their endorsement of John J. Rizzo in Missouri's 40th House District, over 14 year ALPA (AFL-CIO) member and former Naval attack pilot Will Royster, after the Kansas City Star Editorial pointed to very serious questions regarding quid pro quo in legislation sponsored by Henry Rizzo weeks before his son, and he, face a hotly contested primary.
"After receiving calls from highly respected labor leaders and members expressing their frustration regarding this matter, including local fire fighters, we feel it is very important that questions are asked and this endorsement is rescinded. We do not feel the wreckless actions of a few is representative of the hardworking men and women throughout the state that are members of labor unions."

I have not seen him at my doorstep, or even a mailer telling me why I should vote for him. His only tactic is to use TKC to "leak" information, and then make rude and annoying comments about it. Pathetic.
It seems to me, that if you get paid to throw your endorsement behind a shitty candidate, shit is going to fly back at you. The deal was obviously corrupt, and Royster has the balls to call it so.

I hope any investigation into this corrupt deal also looks at the use of a fake Gay Democratic Club by Local 42 and Dutch Newman. Surprise of all surprises, JJ got the endorsement of the KC PRIDE Democratic Club. The same club that did not file a financial disclosure report for about 2 years, and got fined the largest amount ever levied by the Missouri Ethics Commission. The group is a sham. It is a front for the Fire Fighters to funnel money and to divide the Gay vote in KC.

Do individuals directly join the AFL-CIO, or do they join a member union? In other words, can an individual be a "card carrying member" of the AFL-CIO?

As an elected union officer, I can say that Chris Moreno doesn't have to explain anything. We all have a lot of respect for Chris as he has always respect us and worked hard for working families.

If you haven't seen either candidate at a neighborhood meeting, I question your own attendance to them. I've seen both of them at numerous meetings and other events.
ReplyDeleteIf neither candidate has been to your front door at least once, it's probably because you didn't vote in the last primary. Rizzo brought his wife with him last time they stopped by, and when Royster missed us, he left a handwritten note on our door. So that reveals a lot about your own voting records.
And in a neighborhood as ethnic and diverse as Northeast, I really hope all of the anonymous homophobic and racist comments aren't from residents who are actually going to be helping me decide this election.
Rizzo and Royster are both active in the community, but they have different strengths and commitments. I'm not even a Democrat and I respect both men.
