TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! INTERNAL MEMO CLAIMS TEACHERS IN THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI SCHOOL DISTRICT MUST WAIT FOR PLACEMENT IN A PARKING LOT!!!

Sadly, it seems that hope for change in the Kansas City, Missouri School District is dwindling at an increasing pace despite the election of reform candidates in a race where low voter turnout was noted.

Already, people from all walks of life in Kansas City are crying foul over School Board backtracking over consolidating Afrikan Centered Schools. It's a decision that seems politically motivated to a great many people and reminiscent of School Board failure before the reform election.

Now, thanks to KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS we know that . . .

THE CURRENT PLACEMENT PROCESS FOR TEACHERS IS A RATHER INSULTING HOT MESS!!!

Take a look at an internal school board member that's being circulated by Teachers Union folks in order to publicize their plight and offer a look at just one of the indignities they are suffering.

Make no mistake, after Superintendent John Covington (partially) won his hatchet job regarding school closings and now he has pretty much said (in so many words) that he's going after Teacher positions with a vengeance. That will require (basically) busting the Union.

A recent teacher line-up for work/placement is an advance look at an upcoming Kansas City fight.

Check it:

To say that the sending of placement letters to teachers today was a disaster is probably the understatement of the year. It's a mess.

HR says it will correct their mistakes and we will make sure they do, but we need your help.

* If you have received two conflicting letters, no letter or a letter that is wrong (i.e. did not go by seniority in placement, did not consider certification, etc.) contact the Union immediately by responding to this email or calling 756-1818. We will be sending a list to the District at the end of the day tomorrow.

* Please consider the letter you received today as a tentative placement. I am afraid that as the District corrects its mistakes, it will affect other placements.

* Elementary Art, Music and PE teachers have not been placed. Because librarians will not be providing release time for teachers next year, the District has had to recalculate the number of Art, Music and PE teachers that will be needed. As soon as the recalculation is done, letters will be sent out.

* ACE teachers need to notify the District by emailing Kim Joyner-Wortman at kjoynerw@kcmsd.net if they intend to stay with the District.

* If your letter says you are unassigned, you will be placed in the parking lot. Based on seniority, the teachers in the parking lot will be able to select from the vacancies available.

Please print and distribute this email to members who do not have personal email addresses.

In Solidarity,

Andrea Flinders
President, KCFT & SRP

  1. They are kind of like day laborers.

  2. No "right sizing" will fix this district. Implode it and start over. And give me my property taxes back.

  3. Good for Covington. Fire all the teachers and hire qualified certified staff. I'm tired of my tax dollars being wasted on over paid baby sitters! Why is it that Private schools educate the kids better while spending less per student?

  4. Question: Why is "African" spelled with a "K" in Afrikan Centered Schools? What language is that? Afrikaans?

  5. 10:09: I voted for Amerikan centered schools.

  6. 10:09: The fakey spelling of African is designed to make people feel that it is a really cool, with it course that is on the cutting edge. Never mind that it's just a cute spelling of a good old English (white, European) word.

  7. I always wondered about that Afrikan stuff, too. Tony, can you get an explanation of the misspelling?

  8. Whats the problem?

Tony, are you to ignorant to realize this is a metaphor for a big place to wait with other people, except in this case your name waits with others on a list called the parking lot. Or do you just like to get a rise (who am I kidding)?

Its almost like making the teachers wait in line, by seniority. You would think something they make students do everyday would be easy for them to understand.

  9. Covington is doing what he has to do. Let him make his reforms. It's probably the last hope for the district. If he fails or is fired, the state will probably take over the district. (Which, at that point, wouldn't be a bad thing.) I'd then recommend that it be broken into four or five manageable districts. In the case of schools, small is almost always better than large.

  10. Are you an Afrikan? No, I'm from Kanada!

  11. I'm an Afrikan-Kanadian! Chortle.

  12. 6/2/10 10:20 AM has a point. Let the folks like Tony and his enablers on the school board who want to see the school district fail win in their fight to appease cronies and ultimately the state will take over and finally break up the school district.

  13. Will students in the Afrikan Centered program be surprised to learn Africa isn't spelled with a k?

  14. Will you shut up!!! Being against AfriKan is racist!!!

  16. The unhappy realities of a major layoff that most of us have felt during the last couple downturns.

Except for union people... the senior ones, whether productive and inspiring or not to students) have more protection than they deserve.

Good, but younger teachers really resent unions becasue they don't reward effort. Only tenure and usually the older teachers are the ones who are the LEAST innovative!

  17. Get ready for all hell to break loose... over crowded classrooms with new teachers and three or four 17/18 year olds, twice repeating freshman released directly from
MucCune or the Juvenile Justice Center... sitting next to 13 year old girl-women and junior thug - wanna bees....the kids who want to learn (acting white as they call it on the street) don't have a chance...

  18. How can there be overcrowding in the classrooms when many don't bother to show up for class?

You would be surprised how many teachers and support staff are just short of worthless. I hear about it every night. There are so many who believe they are entitled to a job because they've been there for years, are black, disabled, old, whatever.

It's going to take a lot to fix this district and some feelings are going to get hurt in the process. Feelings of ALL colors, ages and sexes.

Let them get rid of the crap and get qualified blood in the classrooms.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That's the problem with unions which base tenure on seniority, not effectiveness.

Let him bust the union and start over.

  20. Good luck Sup. It's gonna be tough.

  21. It was the old-timers that understood how to read the tea leaves and keep the peace between black boys, black girls, gangbangers, wanna be pimps, hombres, headbangers, wiggers, street trash, homeless, dykes, gay boys, nerds, slow learners, illiterates, the upper 10%, hustlers, regular kids, athletes, weed puffers, and the mentally ill, ....all the while, moving some sort of learning forward...now we have the NEW GUYS...good luck... the same thing happens in combat when the "new blood" loo-ten-ant comes in and tries to shape up and shake up the old "Willie & Joe" veterans...and you know what happens to them...either they get shot on the first day or they turn coward, make up a story of valor, and then run for higher office... as leaders...

  22. That's just stupid.

  23. Afrikan schooling is just political correctness taken to its absurdity. Black people getting more than they deserve.

Africkan Studies is a very nice 3 hour college course like any other liberal arts courses geared towards women, Chinese, Russian, Hispanic, and Indian hunters and getherers.

    A good 3 hour course.

Having a high school centered towards black studies in KC, outside of Africa, is completely absurd.

This is exactly why most white people left the KCSD. They're racist and nuts. Let them stew in their own juices and whine because the white people and the black people who want to assimilate know better LEFT!

Best since the Erin Little fat joke T.

  25. Why does Tony keeping talking about Covington union busting? Covington needs to get the administrative side of the equation in order first. He can't do anything until he finds a group of administrators that will walk down the halls and see what is going on in their schools. Why do crappy teachers keep getting satisfactory evaluations? This is not the fault of the union. The union doesn't evaluate teachers. Don't say that there is too much paperwork either. Consider how much paperwork(grading) is done by the teachers on a daily basis. Administrators need to put on some walking shoes and get into the classrooms. I have had administrators that came into my class everyday, and I have had those who actually never made it into my room all year. Guess which administrator gave me a perfect evaluation.
