Thanks to a RATHER AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS I'm able to break some horrible Kansas City news that hopefully inspires Kansas City people into action.
Remember that not so long ago Smucker purchased the Folgers brand for $3.3 billion.
When the purchase went down they promised to keep the KC Plant despite rampant speculation.
NOW THE PLANT IS SLATED TO MOVE TO NEW ORLEANS AND KANSAS CITY WILL LOSE 200 JOBS!!!
Even worse, the smell of coffee downtown will also move with the plant. The move slated for June of 2012 . . . Or sooner. So I'm hoping that locals will perk up and try to offer the company something to reconsider their decision.
The Folger's Plant is part of Downtown Kansas City History and losing it would undoubtedly be a major blow to Kansas City's brand.
Update: Smucker to close 4 plants, cut 700 jobs by 2012
What did they give them last time to keep them here?
ReplyDeleteDoes it matter if you don't wake up till noon?
ReplyDeletethe news was on the wire. you didn't break it
ReplyDeleteMaybe New Orleans is trying to get rid of that damp, musty odor?
ReplyDeleteTony had it, and posted it, before other news outlets. KMBC just posted it...Good work, Tony.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the best part of waking up.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the coffee smell. Just won't be the same Downtown without it.
ReplyDeleteSmucker to close 4 plants, cut 700 jobs by 2012..... downtown kansas city dying branch by branch.

ReplyDeleteThey will not bring the plant back. NO WAY!
It's like a domino effect more and more businesses and people are leaving Kansas city.
ReplyDeleteGo Roasterie!
ReplyDeletelolz. Kansas City is closing down.
ReplyDeletethat smell is just like the way sex smells: kinda neat, kinda nasty. in any case, when you smell it, you know you're HOME.
ReplyDeleteAnd what did Funkhouser do to help avert this sad event...no doubt, absolutely nothing...he wouldn't have a clue about how to approach a business about staying or coming to Kansas City. Why doesn't he just resign and put our City out of its misery under his absence of leadership? Just leave, PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteThis is so bad for KC. A major name brand businesses pulling out of our city. I blame our city government and the crime in kansas city for this.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this bad? Who the hell drinks Folgers anyway?
ReplyDeleteYou just dont close a plant that has been here for a century. There is no way they can do the same thing at the same cost in another city. This city is in a Funk!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't NOLA have Community Coffee? That coffee kicks the crap out of Folgers. I also can't imagine how shipping out of NOLA can be cheaper than shipping out of KCMO.
ReplyDeleteFolgers coffee sucks anyway. Goodbye.
Folger's doesn't suck! I am one of those employees losing their job. Pray for all the employees and their families. Smucker's the parent company is not living up to their Basic Beliefs no matter what SPIN they put on it..
ReplyDeleteSo much for memorable "Meals and Moments". We'll remember this as we go to the unemployment line!!
