KCPD Tax Wish List

The Star: Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin on Tuesday unveiled a list of proposed projects that could be financed through a 15-year extension of the quarter-cent public safety sales tax.

  1. Just say no to these Taxes.
KCPD promised to hire more Officers with the money and never did it.

    Just vote NO !!!!

  2. I wonder if all the cars they bought are still moth-balled sitting in the storage garage? Our Tax money is being used to pay the storage fees, besides the Police department is under State not City control Let them go to the state for the money.

  3. "Just say no to these Taxes. KCPD promised to hire more Officers with the money and never did it. Just vote NO !!!!"

I believe the inability to hire more officers had more to do with our previous City Manager and the City Council refusing to fund the positions (despite having collected the tax money) than it did with any decision by the police department. You might get your facts straight before suggesting people vote no on a proposed tax.

I did not know that KCPD reported to the City manager according to my "facts" they report to the BOPC and then to the state.
What's the city manager have to do with it?

"Also our previous City Manager and the City Council refusing to fund the positions ".... so how do we know whats going to happen to our money the next round? Lots of promises or should I say broken promises.

But you missed the point The FACT is the officers were never hired as promised.

  5. Give me local control and I will vote for these taxes.

  6. "What's the city manager have to do with it?"

You need a lesson in civics. The BOPC requests a proposed budget to run the police department. The City Manager approves or disapproves the requests and sets the proposed city budget. It's then approved by a vote of the city council.

That said, you are correct about the broken promises.

  7. 1:18 - You have local control! The BOPC is made up of residents (lawyers) of Kansas City, Missouri who are appointed by the Governor Jay Nixon (see Alvin Brooks' recent appointment).

    ReplyDelete
  8. 1:27 - Is Brooks a lawyer? Didn't think so!

    ReplyDelete
  9. This tax should not be for 15 years and it should be TIF-exempt.

  11. Mr. Brooks is not a lawyer.

  12. I'm not voting for this because KCPD, the Fire Department, and Mast have been throwing tax dollars away.

I can't believe these organizations, in these economic times they just waste tax dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "You have local control !"

Local Control would mean I VOTE for these people not cronies appointed by the Governor.

    ReplyDelete
  14. How are you going to vote for what people? Council or Chief?

    ReplyDelete
  15. You have no idea what local control even means.

    ReplyDelete
  16. OK like ever other city in the USA expect KCPD and St Louis.
The City has local control over the Police Department.

One of these day Kansas City will join modern society.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes but how is your vote and local control related?

Who are you voting for to give you that special tingle you are longing for?

    ReplyDelete
  18. That " special tingle " as you put it is called democracy.

That's when you vote for public officials.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You vote for your city council and mayor now. They then vote on the budget (money) that they will provide to the PD. The BOPC and Chief propose a budget which they present to the elected, local, officials who have to say yea or nay on it.

I think what you really mean by local control is that you want the city council to appoint the Chief, make policies for the PD and protect their freinds and interests by telling the PD who and who not to arrest and where the arrests will or will not take place.

The reason the PD is under its current form of control is due to corruption at the local level. In my opinion not much has changed since the 30's regarding council corruption or ineptitude.

Take for example Chief Corwin and his private when his ex showed up were any reports filed? No because the press asked for them. Or the drunk police capt. that left the scene of an accident. Are you talking about that kind of corruption?

    ReplyDelete
