My George Bailey Moment Today

The Charles Ferruzza interview at KKFI today was great fun . . . However, one of the best parts was hearing from bloggy friends . . . I wanted to note A GREAT DEAL OF THANKS AND APPRECIATION TO:

ALONZO WASHINGTON

THE KANSAS CITY POST

BOTTOM LINE COMMUNICATIONS

Called in, in that order and left great comments and insights into blogging. It was definitely one of those deals where I didn't realize I had that many bloggy friends . . . Which I makes me think that I haven't been mean enough lately . . .

In a boring hour interview they were the only 3 people to call in.

  2. No, there were three other people but they seemed to be fans of Charles F.

  3. they are all coming down to your level, because, hell its just easier to throw unattributed shit out there. half truths, rumor and innuendo rule the day.

True, that's why I didn't count them as callers...

And to be honest, it just seemed like Alonzo, John and Mark called in for free advertising...

Beyond that, it was my first time listening to Charles on KKFI; I know it's "community radio", but it seemed a poorly planned hour, as though Chaz was relying on tons of people calling in all dying to talk to tkc.

...just a tiny little eddy in the larger media whirlpool.

  5. Here is my problem: I listened but I didn't really feel like calling because I'm more comfortable commenting on the blog. I also think that Tony sounds much too intelligent and academic to be promoting such a low-brow endeavor. If he is going to promote the TKC persona then he must try to embody that persona when he makes appearances. Instead, Tony sounds like a school teacher talking about a much more exciting blog.

    ah...not my impression.

tkc came across as someone who does this for ego; he mentioned he's not tried to monetize the site, nor is he getting paid much by Hearne. Most of his "income" comes from work he would be ashamed to admit he does.

Add to that he is taboo at any real paper in town and he knows this is his only shot at...well, there's the question, isn't it?

  7. "any real paper in town"

    There's only two.

  8. I loved John Landsberg's tone in the call. Especially when he mentioned "cringe" posts. Naughty Tony! Come here so John Landsberg can give you a spanking!

    Now, that's some bottom-line communication!

    NOT GHEY!*

  9. Yeah it was funny when there was a long pause and Ferruza said "surely somebody out there wants to talk to TONY'S KANSAS CITY!"

and then the first caller was blind willy from midtown who wanted to know about gay bishops.

  10. It's a shame nobody really challenged Tony or brought up how it's easy to do the work of multiple writers if accountability, fairness and consistency aren't part of the equation.

Tony draws any conclusions he wants at the expense of everything he can think of attacking.

I don't see a lot of courage in that.

By this point, you know exactly what you're going to get with Tony: a bunch of clumsy race-baiting, character attacks, gender + social slander, malicious gossip.

It's fitting that Alonzo would be one of his biggest public backers. At this point, they're both caricatures.

Tony's radio call-in fail today made it clear nobody in the real world is going to take TKC seriously until he decides whether it's a joke or a news site.

  11. Tony,

Ignore the haters, awesome job today on Ferruza (nullus) that shit was tight. In case any of you didn't get to hear the hilarious part where Charles asked Tony if he lived in his mom's basement, here's a sample from the audio I recorded...

Charles Ferruza: So Tony, tell me, is it true, do you really live in your mom's basement?

TKC: Well... I won't say one way or another, Charles. Really, it's all part of the persona, as well as my readers' imagination. The long tail of journalism, you might say.

Old Lady:(whispers) He didn't really answer your question, Charles.

Charles Ferruza: Well I just like to picture Tony high up in a Plaza Penthouse, dating a ravishing movie star, biting into snack cakes and typing away on his scrumptious blog!

TKC: Flattery, Charles, will get you everywhere!
