I once thought liberals were being mean when then constantly attacked E. Thomas McClanahan for his right-leaning views. Now I realize they were being far too nice.
This morning, McLanahan posted one of the most ridiculous ideas to replace the E-tax based on nothing more than a crackpot theory that has virtually no basis in reality. Basically, he wants to replace the E-Tax with a Land Tax.
"A land tax would encourage investment. Property owners would be penalized for hoarding acreage and doing nothing. For example, speculators who own parking lots downtown — where land taxes would be highest — would have to develop their parcels or sell them to entrepreneurs capable of putting up profitable buildings and realizing the full economic potential of the location."Even moreso than the E-tax this kind of nitwit thinking would chase business away from Kansas City in droves . . . Even worse, similar theoretical economic discourse against the E-tax is equally impractical. It's all based on "IF/THEN" reasoning that risks hundreds of millions worth of funding from a City that already can't pay its bills.
LIKE THE VAST MAJORITY OF CONSERVATIVE/REACTIONARY GRASSROOTS TEABAG SENTIMENT - PLANS TO ELIMINATE THE E-TAX HAVE NO BASIS IN REALITY AND INSTEAD RELY ONLY ON THE (SELF) RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION OF MIDDLE-CLASS AMATEUR ECONOMISTS!!!
Suggestions to replace the money or simply go without (police, water, ambulance and fire) services are nearly as sophomoric and amateur as the stuff that Sarah Palin comes up with . . . If this is the level of intellect of Conservatives in the United States than the ascendancy of Obama to the Presidency shouldn't really be a surprise.
Brief aside . . . As for the complaints from out-0f-towners forced to pay the E-tax: So what? That's simply an incentive to live within City Limits. Cries of "taxation without representation" don't make sense because the option exists to take part in all the glory that is KC proper but interlopers who take advantage of City Services and Entertainment funded by the people of Kansas City simply want another free ride.
Finally, half baked plans like the one touted by McClanahan mostly ignore the fact that land, property and any kind of increased burden on the people who reside in Kansas City will put a great many people out of their homes. Tragically, increasing regressive taxes that take their toll on local po'folk is the only answer coming from greedy, crybaby E-Tax detractors.
maybe they can live in a basement?
ReplyDeleteThomas McClanahan left more IQ points in the bottom of his toilet this morning than you will acquire in a lifetime of jerking off over Denise Miani photos, dickhead.
ReplyDeleteThis land tax idea has been verbalized around Kansas City for at least 20 years.
ReplyDeleteTony, welcome to adulthood. Realizing that conservatives do not have the best interest of the Americans in mind is the first step. They would rather funnel billions to foreign countries to improve the quality of life for THOSE citizens.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or is the chick in this picture kind of hot?
ReplyDeleteBoy will the beaner gangs like 25% fewer KC Cops hassling them, huh Tony? But keep kissing up to Darla, you idiot.
ReplyDeletePlenty of cities do just FINE with an Earnings Tax. Pay your own way. You better hope surrounding communities don't come up with an earnings tax on non-residents. Now THAT would be just funny!
ReplyDeleteThere's some confusion here on Tony's part. The earnings tax is not an incentive to live in KC. It's an incentive to live and work in Johnson County. And plenty of people are responding to that incentive.
ReplyDeleteCities need money to operate. So Johnson County doesn't have an earnings tax, what is their revenue tax? Higher property tax, higher sales tax, higher fuel tax? Something. They don't print their own cash, do they? Wake up people.
ReplyDeletePeople are moving to Johnson County because they can't get a decent public school education in Kansas City, the political leadership has become an obstacle to decent living, and the City is UNSAFE... the murder rate is one of the highest in the country and the Snow Removal and Safety Crisis has again reminded the fleeing citizens (as well as the citizens who stay either by choice or they don't have enough money to pay to relocate) that the City and it's Feckless Political Class cannot provide either a basic level of essential services (education, snow removal, street repair and maintenance, a working water and sewer system that is legal) or a City That Works and is Safe.
ReplyDeleteLong live the Orange Revolution, the Orange Revolution is Dead!
Wouldn't it be great if K.C. residents could pay for their own fucking shit?
ReplyDeleteActually, it would be a fucking miracle.
anon 09:20:00,
ReplyDeleteEarnings tax is used by very few cities and if you want 'pay as you go' sales tax is your best bet.
Your lack of info makes me think you are council member or their staffer
Um, NO tax is best, fools.
ReplyDeleteSince when is holding a gun to someone's head to collect taxes an ethical way to live?
