TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME LAB STAYS LOSING!!!

More bad news for crime in Kansas City or at the very least, yet another sign that this town lacks the appropriate resources to fight crime . . . Remember that earlier this year it was already reported that Kansas City's crime lab faced a huge backlog.

According to an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER the situation has grown even worse for the KCPD Crime lab.

Here's the money quote:
1. The summary report finds deficiencies in, among other things: 1) handling and preserving the integrity of evidence, 2) a documented training program, 3) a written or secure electronic chain of custody record with all necessary date which provides for complete tracking of all evidence, 4) evidence not stored under proper seal, 5) no secure area for overnight and/or long-term storage, 6) inadequate standard samples and reagents, 7) improper documenting of conclusions and opinions of examiners, 8) faulty proficiency testing, 9) improper re-examination or blind testing of proficiency, 10) inadequate education and experience/training of examiners, 11) examiners who do not understand the instruments and the methods and procedures, 12) examiners who failed to complete a competency test, 13) examiners who failed to complete an annual proficiency test, etc., etc., etc.
For more info on this subject . . . Check out the entire inspection report courtesy of AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS!!!

It's all very interesting stuff that's not glamorous as an episode of CSI . . . And not even close to being as up to date.
