KANSAS CITY SOCCER FAILURE!!!

I have mixed feelings about The Wizards looking to KCK for their soccer stadium.

Let's not forget that The Wizards, despite all of their hype STILL have one of the worst records for MLS attendance.

Mayor Funky promised these people a SUPER-TIF that Kansas City can't afford right now. The tax deal also had the blessing of BOTH 6th District Council folk with John Sharp taking the lead and cutie Cathy Jolly just giving her wink of approval.

Still . . . It's sad to see that KC Proper can't even compete with a much smaller city across the State Line.

Hare are the links and the local government and business perspective is far more captivating than ANYTHING that's ever happened on a local soccer field.

  • Judging just by timestamp . . . A popular local Soccer blog was first with this news: New Stadium Site for Wizards

  • Newsie Nick Sloan quickly offered a more comprehensive and objective take on the Story from The Kansas City Kansan.

  • The Star was last on this story with a write-up that's mostly a press release and some photos put out by a local architectural firm.

    5. South Kansas City was given false hope for an economic revival by the Bannister Mall re-developers and their shills like Councilman Sharp and wannabe Tim Henry.

Local observers, who read up on the commercial real estate situation (disaster) in the USA, knew it was bound to fail even before the financial crisis, but they are nothing more than observers.

Only the stadium was ever a real possibility, and now that's slipping away.

Flush the B.M... and John "not so" Sharp!

    6. Whichever city gets the soccer stadium will be the loser. Bannister mall should be redeveloped as a soy bean field because thats all the demographics will support.

    7. Nobody seems to think of the 1% e-tax. Aka the fuck you for being stupid enough to put a business in KCMO tax.

I would never ever open a business in KCMO for the very reason I don't see the need to punish my employees for my stupidity.

In exchange for high taxes, I get a poor school district, city government that is run by unions and not by common sense, a failing infrastructure, a murderous wasteland, and a city that caters exclusively to high dollar handout grabbing businesses -- like these soccer clowns.

Wyandotte can have their stadium. I'm sick of the TIF handouts here.

    8. Move to Kansas ASAP. We don't another loser we have the Chiefs and Royals. They are just trying to blackmail Kansas City for more money. It will not work Kansas City is on the verge of bankruptcy. Just look at where John Sharp gets his campaign contributions. He would sell out SKC just to try to keep his city council seat.

No, make it cotton fields. That way the local residents can get back down to their 'roots'.

      Kudos to KCK.

They've been making smart moves like this ever since they got unified.

They sit back and watch KCMO offer and promise things that they can't deliver and just when you thought it was hopeless, they swoop in and throw out a very well thought out plan.

They get together with all the interested private and government deal makers and planners, reach a consensus on what they want and how they want to do it and then proceed to blow KCMO's unfinished and poorly planned ideas out of the water.

      Good job KCK.

Seeing as all the council members make these totally crackpot decisions that only seem to benefit the big money factions, I would love to see their tax returns.

And as long as we're going in that direction, I would also like to see what kinds of things they own. Cars, clothes, houses and such. Just to see if their holdings and bank accounts and lifestyle match what they declare on their tax returns.

If they're all sellouts, how 'bout having the FBI toss 'em a RICO bracelet and toss them all in prison.

Don't public officials have to disclose their tax returns and other monetary gifts?

    14. All kidding aside, someone needs to reimburse the city for any money that was advanced on this project. Meanwhile the city needs to get cracking to find a new development for that spot. Hopefully it won't be another glitzy or wanna-be glitzy high profile venue like a stadium but rather something that generates some jobs. The only retail the area needs are the things that support the residents, grocery stores, cleaners, maybe some discount stores or the another Gordmans. But I think the days of this area being a full-blown destination shopping or entertainment venue have passed. This was the last ship and it has sailed. Now lets get some jobs and industry in there.

    15. Good steal for KCK..NASCAR, Schitterban Waterpark, Nebraska Furniture...minutes from the Golden Ghetto..looks like a good fit.

    16. Agreed. KCK is making this cowtown look silly.

    17. Sharp wouldn't just sell out the sixth district; he'd sell out his mother.

He kept saying with the new stadium and all the attending amenities, the old Bannister Mall would be just like The Legends. Maybe he gave Lane4 and On-Goal an idea.
