TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! MINUS THE MAYOR: JOE MILLER IS A JOURNALIST AGAIN!!!

Kansas City is moving on without Mayor Funkhouser and I have a great EXCLUSIVE example.

FORMER MAYOR FUNKY COMMUNICATIONS DUDE JOE MILLER WILL SOON BE WORKING AGAIN AS A JOURNALIST IN KANSAS CITY!!!

Even better . . . It's an Internet publication from which he'll be getting paid . . . And that pretty much puts him at the pinnacle of Kansas City Internet denizens.

The upcoming website will be kcdowntowner.com which is still under construction. Miller will be covering politics/government/social issues of interest to people who live/work/play downtown. Obviously, the site is downtown focused and it's the property of some yet-to-be-named big money player looking to promote downtown life.

More importantly . . . This signifies two facts coming to light in Kansas City . . .

  • It is possible to move on without the Mayor's hot mess of a relationship making a joke of nearly everything in town.

  • The future for newsies is online.

  • I'm looking forward to Miller's contribution to the local discourse. His work has always had a great impact on life in this town and it's good to see even more competition in Kansas City reporting and more content related to this cowtown.

    1. The publisher I've been told is an internet millionaire that has been responsible for a number of very successful web-sites both in the US and internationally. Sounds like Joe landed a good gig.

Maybe they/he will reach out to Tony as well at some point?

    2. Downtowner??? Isn't that the same name as a TIF lovin group that wants all our tax dollars for every deal they dream up?

Did Joe sell out? Is Joe hired to support a TIF Candidate?

      Just sayin.

    4. But wasn't Jo-Jo a writer for the Pitch before joining the mayor's staff. If so, shouldn't the headline read "Joe Miller to Become a Journalist for the First Time"?

Not that I'm saying the Pitch is a bar rag suitable only for moping up beer spills and serving as a prop for middle-aged hipster wanna-bes ... Oh wait. I guess I am saying that.

    5. Huh. I thought I was the Joe who wrote a book that was named one of the best books of the year by the Chicago Tribune, Kansas City Star and Amazon.com, and won the William Rockhill Nelson Award and the Harry Chapin Media Award for nonfiction, and who has twice been a finalist for the John Bartlow Martin Award for Public Interest Magazine Journalism and the Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Awards.

And who is also sometimes vain.

    6. Oh, forgot to mention. No, the site is not affiliated with the Downtowners.

    7. I bet it is some rich broad trying to keep her "loft business" from being taken back by the bank. The downturn is really stomping on several "big" investors who were going to show this one hick town. so now we are a three hick town.

    8. Congrats Joe!

    9. Thanks for responding Joe. Would have been shocked if you were a paid gun for a candidate or special interest.

Joe Miller, the neo-liberal (see covert-racist-in-sandals-who-poses-as-a-black-person's-friend-only-when-it-profits-him) sell-out, is back?

What bigoted organization is he going to support this time?

Or, is Joe Miller just going to slander more black kids and profit off their misfortune?

Wow, I can't wait to read more of Joe Miller's typical white guy perspective! I'm sure his purview is so unique. (Not really.)

    11. Is this going to try and fill the never needed niche of Urban Times?

Let's be real. Joe Miller exploited/profited off of black kids before Mayor Funk. Then he supported neo-Nazi Semler. Then he supported the co-Mayors in discriminating against a black co-worker.

Joe Miller didn't ultimately "tell the truth," if you're talking about the Mayor Funk settlement. So let's just be honest and acknowledge that Miller would have been content (and in fact he admitted that he was continuing to be content) with going right along supporting the mayor's racist bumbling hick administration. The only reason Miller finally bailed is because it became public knowledge that Miller was conspiring to violate Missouri Sunshine Laws. Hypocrite. In an nutshell, Miller got kicked out of the barefoot gang? Then, the schmuck flipped.

It's public knowledge that Joe Miller has no integrity no matter which angle you choose to see it from.

    15. You know you're a great journalist when you list the fact you were the finalist for an award no one has ever heard of.

      ReplyDelete
    16. 9:44 - I guess no one is a good journalist then if the new standard is that some rude ignoramus who knows nothing about journalism has to have heard of your award.

What the hell is a John Bartlow Martin Award? Does that come with a $5 gift certificate to Stuckey's?
