TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! WORD IS KANSAS CITY OWES THE EDC $30 MILLION!!!

Once again there's a consequence to all of these City Hall financial shenanigans.

I don't even know if The Star had (could afford to have) a reporter there but there is an interesting tidbit revealed in the business session today of the Finance and Audit Committee. It'll show up on the Internet soon enough and word is already spreading quickly through City Hall regarding all of this Kansas City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) hot mess.

DEB HERMANN SAYS THAT KANSAS CITY OWES THE EDC ABOUT $30 MILLION!!!

TKC referred to this number previously in my series of EXCLUSIVE and INVESTIGATIVE EDC Cash raid post.

The big question floating around that I'm going to try and get answered and definitely deserves attention . . .

WHAT IN THE HELL DID KANSAS CITY SPEND IT ON?!?!?!

(Don't worry, I'm fairly certain we'll never find out a definite answer because I'm convinced a significant portion of taxpayer cash in Kansas City simply disappears down a rabbit hole)

Look for other newsy outlets to follow-up my Live, Late Breaking reporting . . . It'll be more official because they have nicer suits and better haircuts . . . But TKC readers learned it here first, unless they watch Channel 2. Natch.

  3. What is so hard to believe? We live in Wayne's World; of course money is mishandled!

  4. Could you be a little more sensationl. I like how you jump into a story without bothering to check the facts. Seems like, if the city really owed it and wouldn't pay it, then it would really be a story. How about a little ethical reporting, or did you sell your soul to he devil?

  5. Tony, the big deal is if the City owes EDC that means the EDC hasn't paid itself those outrageous fees taken off of the top of PILOTS.

  6. The big deal is also not why the city WON'T pay the money back, but rather if they CAN pay it back. Since the money went for the City Manager's "programs" it would seem the money has been spent. It's akin to saying, "If I pay the light bill, I can't go out to dinner, so won't pay the light bill! See... I'm rich!"

I think we've been "Madoff'd" in KC and it happened on Wayne's watch. Any CM who lets a Citadel project move forward while knowing about and reading documentation that shows the development company is in default in several areas, then proceeds to have his staff actively cheerlead for the project because a certain City Councilman wants the project done at any cost, is horrible management. Look at the purchasing cards nightmare, LT, Judy Hadley, Ramonda in the past, and Chuck Eddy, Kimiko Gilmoreand Yates today, look at the disaster that is CIMO, look at the failure of Aim 4 Peace, look at the worthlessness of the Youth Advocacy Department. The Parks department budget is decimated.

Interesting... the City Managers grade card was due today... what do you suppose he got on a scale of one to five, with five being outstanding and 1 being worthless. And you have to have your guess in positive integers

    The feeble minded forget quickly.

City to cover an $8,000,000 shortfall just 3 months ago to cover TIF payments.

Two years it was a last minute payment of $7,000,000 which was surprisingly presented to Council becuase developers "had waited long" to submit reimbursement.

How come the City even with the growth in the past 6 years has had flat sales tax levels?

  8. Niggerz fuck everything up, it's true!
All you KCMO folks get on your knees and sing your praises to Wayne Cauthen.
Look back on this in 10 years and tell me I'm wrong.
