The Devastating Aftermath of light rain!!!

Yes, there were disastrous storms in the Midwest this weekend . . . Some storm chasing d-bag even went out and captured some video that's not too bad. And Bottom Line Communications reports some big numbers for the weather coverage. But when light rain only appeared in my neighborhood and in KC Proper . . . It just seemed like unnecessary hysterics to me. And honestly, I've always wondered how much people in the middle of a storm relied on Katie Horner or any other weather newsie looking so gravely concerned and running around the studio . . . Other than, of course, the comic relief of Horner coming into the studio in her "hot soccer mom" get up in order to communicate the fact that she just came off MILF duty. What was even funnier were the announcements by newsies noting twitter chats . . . Frankly, I was hoping that they could've taken the whole conversation to Facebook where I could have much more easily ignored it . . . And I'm sure that one of these days technology will provide the answer . . . Because regional panic driven weather coverage seems horribly outdated and part of a distant memory of when people actually cared about news that didn't directly impact their own lives.

  3. tv coverage may have been "overkill" in some people's eyes, but not to the folks who lived in the path of those storms, tony. just because you stayed dry and already safe in your basement, doesn't mean some didn't appreciate the seriousness. whether you choose to accept it as a fact or not, when severe weather conditions exist - in particular a tornado watch - a tornado can form and drop right down on your ass without additional warning (beyond the watch). if you're still alive, you'll wonder what blew up the house.

and the constant tv coverage was better than the little-to-nonexistent coverage on radio.

now, about that camel toe, katie... mmmmmm.....

  4. I would like to rain all over that action.

Except it wouldn't be rain, and she won't need that umbrella.

  6. Way too much coverage of the impending storm on Saturday night; It totally ruined my television viewing I had planned for that night - I know pathetic for a Saturday night but rain was in the forecast. Missed Harry Potter altogether. On Sunday when it seemed that it would be a repeat of the night before, I just went to Blockbuster and rented a movie instead. These stations should be less dramatic about their weather coverage but what can you expect from ratings hungry and alarmist local media.

  7. Seven stations, 4 helicopters, one idiot driving toward the storm... and receiving praise for doing stupid.
Sorta typifies the uselessness of broadcast journalism on the local tv side...

  8. and let's see how you feel about that coverage next time when instead of the storms blowing through two counties away, they're bearing down on your home sweet home.

meanwhile, good lord people, if you don't freakin' like the weather break-ins or wall-to-wall covereage, get a damned DVD player for your Harry Potty and a weather radio to alert you to the impending stores. voila!!! no "annoying" tv coverage, no worries about local radio letting you down, and you get the warnings too. damn, ain't technology grand??
