Finally finished editing my interview with Kansas City Blogger May Evans, the blogger behind May's Machete.
It was fun to interview May and finally meeting her it wasn't surprising to see that she's not only bright, funny and intelligent on her blog but also in the real world.
The hardest part was cutting so much good stuff . . . There were a lot of things that inspired the interview . . . I really like what Miles Bonny is doing with his show and I felt like talking to people on record about what motivates them would be informative and just a bit entertaining. Also, it's no secret I'm a fan of May's work . . . Finally . . . Local news media love to write off bloggers as some phantom group without a real identity but what I'm going to try to do with blogger interviews is simply to remind folks that a great many of the people who write blogs are pretty amazing, they have a lot to say and their reporting, opinions and writing is just as valuable as the stuff distributed by mainstream media.
As far as May's blog . . . I'm looking forward to her bringing back online and I'm impressed with the new direction she wants to take with her writing.
I hope to make these "Blogger Backtalk" interviews a regular feature . . . So feel free to e-mail me if you're a blogger and you feel like you have something to say on this blog and on camera.

ReplyDeleteLooks like the same comments are here that are on all the other posts with a picture or mention of a local woman -- the whole graphic "what I wouldn't do to her sexually" shtick.
ReplyDeleteNot only does this get old, it's sexual intimidation. What these people are trying to say is "it doesn't matter what accomplishment a woman makes, she's still just a piece of meat."
I'm not worried about May -- she seems grown-up and thick skinned enough not to worry about this.
But if you want other people to volunteer for these interviews, it might ease their mind a bit to know that posters won't be allowed to leave gross sexual comments or hints of rape in the comments beneath their interview.
Putting your image out there on camera, on a blog, even in a photo, takes a bit of courage and you don't need your reward to be a bunch of pervs having a public discussion what kinds of sex acts you'd be willing to perform.
Of course, Tony would not know the first thing about this since he prefers to hide his own face from view . One little thing that separates him from the "real" media. Accountability.
