With this thoughtful post regarding education in Kansas City, it just occurred to me that the Mayor's involvement in the Kansas City School District is more along the lines of a power grab. Here's the money quote from KC Education blog: "We are not advocating for a mayor-appointed board in Kansas City, but we do maintain that it is in the community’s best interest if the Kansas City Missouri School District remains under local control. However, we can all agree that the status quo is not working. We strongly believe that the interests of our public schools are best served by a new governance structure that will provide the type of leadership required to turn around the KCMSD."
And while I may not agree with every word, I realize this is a nuanced and articulate approach to the KC School District whereas supporters of Mayor Funky's impending power grab will simply be using racially coded language, relying on token support for quick payoffs and spouting otherwise vague pleasantries in support of a plan that hasn't been well-thought out . . . Like the rest of the Mayor's adventures.

Cannot for the life of me see an racially coded language. Care to elaborate?

ReplyDeleteIf you go to the MO dept of education website, you can get race stats on each public school. (district and charter).
There are no stats on private schools though.
