TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! STUDENTS IN THE KANSAS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE PROBABLY BREATHING BLACK MOLD!!!

A special thanks to a very brave TKC Tipster who sent this important information to readers of this blog.

Recently, there's been renewed media attention to Indoor Air Quality by the national media. Unfortunately, right here in Kansas City, students are forced to breath some pretty decrepit and probably unsafe air.

Information revealed this blog comes from a contractor who has worked inside the schools and I don't care if I get waterboarded, I'm not telling anyone his name until he gives me permission.

The photos contained in this post are "shots of areas within some buildings that caused problems with air quality with respect to mold."

The TKC Tipster notes: "As you may or may not know, according to the EPA, if water damage is not cleaned up within 24-48 hours, mold and mildew will start to form and in the presence of heat, will incubate and become airborne releasing mold spores into the air." For more information on mold and school design, the EPA's site provides a definitive resource.

Photos from inside school rooms are also troubling. This TKC Tipster is extremely concerned about the health and well-being of students in the district and here's what he had to say on the subject:

"I pleaded with the management to gut this room and other rooms like it and rip out the old molded carpet. Instead, they decided to forgo having the rooms remediated and just have the carpet cleaned. WOULD YOU WANT YOUR KIDS GOING TO CLASS AT THIS SCHOOL?"

It gets worse from there and this TKC Tipster contends that overall there is a serious concern that's being overlooked in the KC School District related to Indoor Air quality.

This kind of thing puts students, teachers and administrators at a health risk . . . A look at the underbelly of some local schools should provoke serious questions regarding the steps that the KC School District is taking (or neglecting to take) to ensure that students aren't breathing dangerous mold.

Sadly, I can already guess the answer on this one because it's the same thing we hear from the Kansas City School District on every topic . . . They're diligently working on the problem, they're proud of their efforts so far (and patting themselves on the back for it in public) and they're hopeful for change in the future . . .

Meanwhile, mismanaged and long suffering Kansas City Schools remain dangerous in almost every respect.

  6. Yet another reason people are better off in Johnson County. Thank about it TKC and then maybe you'll use an excuse other than racism.

  7. It's fascinating, after what's-his-name, that judge told the KCMO schools they could have whatever they wanted regardless of cost, that this is still how it is.

I don't know if it's endemic of the government running something large, or if it speaks to the competence of voters in Kansas City and who they send to the school board.

    Probably both.

  8. Where is Rus Johnson. He can take care of this. He has the moves to get this situation fixed immediately. He did a great job of getting Light rail killed, turn him loose on this.

  9. The kids would be better off if they had vouchers. But that would mean that lazy administrators would be out of a job.

  10. I don't know if it's endemic of the government running something large, or if it speaks to the competence of voters in Kansas City and who they send to the school board.

I voted for Funk and I thought I was smart.

Is it really the voters fault?

  11. Well, whats more important..African drums or maintaining the schools. The pictures make that quite clear.

  12. You know for once Tony I think this is more important than Funkhouser bull.

  13. Yes, it's the voters' fault.

You need to look no further than the annual search for a new superintendent of schools in KCMO. No one can ever successfully work with the school board, who, let's be honest, are often elected for reasons other than their competency as elected officials, and select superintendents accordingly.

I'm not sure who would work for them, really. It seems like a busybody organization that insists on getting in the way of progress at every turn.

  14. It is a ton of these schools that the district is hiding the truth from their parents and students, KCMSD should be sued putting the lifes of the students in danger, KNOTTS,MELCHER,PERSHING,PINKERTON,SATCHEL PAIGE, WEEKS, CENTRAL HIGH AND THE LIST GOES ON. IF YOU HAVE OR KNOW OF ANY STUDENTS ATTENDING THESE SCHOOLS-SEE A DOCTOR, OR GET A LAWYER

  15. No do they have a district emergency plan and the joke is they pay Marilyn Fortman nearly $72,000.00 dollars for this position. And she has only passed out a copies that was done years and years ago 2 pages LOL--this district sucks...

  16. Would we tolerate The Chiefs being treated like this? Seriously, why do we allow our kids to go to school in buildings like this while we spend taxpayer dollars on state of the art stadiums for The Chiefs and The Royals?

Let's put up their records against KCMO test scores. They are all huggin the bottom together!

  17. Good piece tony. Shouldn't water down your blog tho with your ego messages about funk.

This was a good one. So was the treatment about Helling's thing.

Actually you a pretty good day, all the way around! Several in a row, actually.

Yet, gloating about the mayor talking about your blog kinda cheapened your successes today, imho. You should be above that. Its like youre trying to prove all the time youre worthy. you do good work when you do it...but don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Leave it to the rest of us to do that. You do cover kc pretty well...but just one floor of one fairly tall building, you cover TOO well.

  18. The School District needs to be taken over, they have no idea what they're doing.
