Soccer will save South Kansas City!?!?

Here's an idea: A huge economic development plan for South KC (so far, so good) and the cornerstone will be a venue for a sport that nobody in this cowtown follows!!!

It could be worse . . . I'm just glad that people around here haven't sunk tens of millions into saving a bad part of town by investing in the history of a dead art form. That would be a disaster.

Nevertheless, it's good to know that soccer is soon to save South KC . . . All they need is several million dollars that might soon be on the way. Disagree or no, Kansas City Soccer blog Down the Byline is the best source for information on this subject. Check out his latest communique:
The plan for the redevelopment of the site is on the agenda for Missouri Development Finance Board meeting this Thursday, November 20th. The redevelopment is the first piece of old business on the agenda for the meeting. If news from the KC Business Journal earlier this month is accurate, then this meeting should see the approval of the funds for the development approved.
Find more links and info about all things soccer on his blog . . . Just don't promise not to be disappointed when the hint of a 3 hour David Beckham visit doesn't magically fix blighted Bannister Mall.

  1. Only if mezikans go to the games......not enough white people support soccer.

  2. Does the light rail go there? Oh wait... sorry... that was a few weeks ago. I still feel light(rail)-headed from the whole thing.

  3. Let's see, you tear down a large retail center which failed miserably, build a soccer stadium that no one comes to, build some new retail space, build new office buildings when office vacancy is at an all time high and call it redevelopment. Whoever thought this up should either work on Wall Street or in Detroit.
