Michael Burke is DEFINITELY going to be the next Mayor of Kansas City!!!

The latest name to surface when it comes to recall talk is Michael Burke.

Mr. Burke has an excellent history of service to Kansas City.

Because he's a lawyer, rich and well respected . . . I don't know if he's a Republican but I think I know where recall proponents are going with this mention of the former KC Councilman . . . On paper and by reputation Mr. Burke is exceedingly rational, calm and evenhanded . . . These are exactly the opposite traits that Mayor Funky has shown to Kansas City.

At this point . . . I think that proponents of a recall believe that ANYBODY would be better than our current Co-Mayors and their embarrasing struggle to rule this town as King and Queen.

Comments

  1. Mike Burke gets my vote--he's a great guy and has always shown a great dedication to the city.

  2. Mike Burke is a TIF loving development attorney who took over for Dick King at King Hershey. He's the new King of TIF. He'll definitely have the financial backing of every developer in town.

  3. Tony: You are wrong about Burke. The council will remove Funkhouser for misconduct pursuant to the City Charter. Through various machinations a prominent black attorney will end up as Funk's replacement. Funk has allowed himself to be led into a trap.

  4. I have known Mr. Burke for many years. I believe he has the passion, integrity and the brains required for running a city the size of Kansas City. I can think of no other more qualified to do this job.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I am NO FAN of what Funk is doing right now (for God's sake, send Gloria back to being a doula), but one thing he has done is cut off the trough for the TIF attorneys and developers. That's the first thing Burke would undo, being a TIF hog himself.

  6. A prominent black attorney? Hmm... Ardie Bland knows City Hall!

  7. Acording to city charter, it will take an affirmative vote of 9 members to expel and member(including the mayor. This must happen befor the beginning of the 31st month of the mayors term. Only then will a special election be held. Any later than that, and the mayor pro-tem will become the defacto mayor.

  8. The people could really get behind Beth for mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Look at the election results in 2007. Cathy Jolly was the overall top vote getter in the city.

  11. I wouldn't hesitate to "get behind" Cathy Jolly at any time!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Burke would be well funded by the trough swilling developers, no doubt. Back to business as usual in KCMO...

And can anon 9:05 give ONE example of how the mayor has cut off TIF? Just one will do.

  13. Burke could never stand the scrutiny. When the public finds out how many $millions he's taken from the Port Authority, and failed devlopments the City is on the hook for, like Renaissance North, he'll fade in the light of day. Burke's part of the problem not part of the solution.

  14. Burke or Beth? That is the best we got?

We can do a lot better than that.

  15. Burke's a buddy of Kay Barnes. Check out his contributions at opensecrets.org

  16. Of course Burke and Barnes are buddies. They served on the council together.

Get behind Jolly? I refuse to vote for anyone over the age of 17 that still uses the phrase "C'mon you guys!" in public meetings. Jolly is better suited to lead the prom decorating committee, not a city.

Just like last time there is nobody on the council that would make a good mayor. For that matter there's nobody from past councils either and that especially includes Burke, Rowland, Stackhaus or Glover.

Better to look outside City Hall for a new leader.

  17. "Better to look outside City Hall for a new leader."

    Like who?

    ReplyDelete
  18. If I named my preferences for mayor everyone would just pile on about how they suck so why bother?

Let's just say I saw a couple of promising young leaders in the last council elections who showed far more potential then the positions for which they were running and I hope they stay involved.

  19. Al Brooks ran for election. As far as I am concerned, he should be the logical choice, since the funky candidate didn't live up to his promises! That would help me feel better about this funky fiasco.

With Obama in office, this might actually help our city get out of the mess we are in - as one black guy to another. Brooks is high profile in national African American circles and might be able to lobby for our wonderfully diverse city.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Beth would be the best choice.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Beth Gottstein for mayor. She has all of the credentials - never worked a job, rich family, learned everthing she knows from Karen McCarthy, and most important - can look good on a campaign poster.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "can look good on a campaign poster"

Only if she uses old photos. Nowadays she would be lucky just to "fit" on a campaign poster.

Marcason studied at the feet of Krazy Karen too. What is it with the 4th district and its legacy of crazies?

    ReplyDelete
  23. What does appearance on a campaign poster have with her qualifications to become mayor?

    ReplyDelete
  24. the old Kemper guy has to volunteer, until the city can pull itself together. i've heard him on the radio, seems a general lack of bullshit

    ReplyDelete
  25. There aren't qualifications anymore. Obama got elected, enough said!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I could get behind Cathy Jolly, and I'd give her a reach-around, too! "Cum on, guys!"

    ReplyDelete
  27. What's wrong with Jolyy's eyes?

They look like their about to pop out of her head.

Either that or it's her brain contracting too hard when she tries to put more than 3 words in a sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Burke is burp. Vile sour regurgitated milk. He is Barnes with kneepads.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "I have known Mr. Burke for many years. I believe he has the passion, integrity and the brains required for running a city the size of Kansas City. I can think of no other more qualified to do this job."

Okay, now we know Burke frequents this blog. Sit down Burke and shut up.

Since Tony likes Burke, I assume he's black. If the posts are true and he keeps company with the local developers... we've had enough of that.

As for Alvin Brooks... is he still alive. Wasn't he like 90 something. He seems like a nice guy, but he's clueless. He never knew anything about what he was voting for... he just listened to his aides and Terry "puppet master" Riley.

Perhaps Wayne Cauthen should run for mayor... everyone seems to like this guy even though his office is full of porn pushers and pediphiles. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mike Burke is an interesting highly capable lawyer. And he will talk to about anyone. But make no mistake about it, he is for the big guys.

Having said that, few know the infrastructure needs of this city or PIAC as well as Mike. I am just cautious these days having voted for Funkhouser.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm all for another KC mayor who will jack up my taxes to "spread the wealth" and bring a lot more section 8 housing to my currently peaceful neighborhood.

I feel that past mayors just scratched the surface. I still have money in my pocket, and I have only been the victim of petty crime.

With a new adminstration, I think this city can be even more diverse in spreading the crime around and taking more of my money to give to jobless shitbags in the ghetto.

    ReplyDelete
  32. And maybe we can get back to the effort to re-name State Line Rd to Link Rd.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I still say Deb Hermann . . . not flashy, not exciting, but works hard, knows what is going on, has more common sense than most of the council combined -- and it's really hard to find a truthful bad thing about her work on the council.

    ReplyDelete
  34. denny crane, you talkin' bout Sly James? Interesting.

I'd go for that. Then again, I'd go for Sly (fill in blank). Or (fill in blank) James, at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Cindy Circo. She's about the smartest one WITH COMMON SENSE on the Council. She was the one with the balls to stand up and counter Funkhouser's "poor me" speech ("Can we stand together??!") when he was trying to defeat the volunteer ordinance. She is down-to-earth, a "regular" person's choice for mayor.... I would say. I can't imagine her doing any of the stunts that have been going on.

If a recall is going to happen (and us NOT get stuck with SKAGGS), we need to get on board soon! It's time the co-mayors are told exactly what we think about them and that we're not going to take it anymore. Those two are so smug.......... like they think that they can't be touched. Well, I think we all need to quit bitchin' about them and DO SOMETHING!

    ReplyDelete
  36. It seems like the only way you can be Mayor of Kansas City and be supported, is to be a Millionaire.

Does millionaires care about the forgotten community? Or, is all about is getting richer, no matter what the cost. People are not a variable.

What is Kansas City coming to? When Cleaver was Mayor Kansas City it was loved.

The Northland is getting richer and the central city is forgotten. It seems like it is a monopoly game, who can get the most money in the personal bank.

I think we need a minority Mayor (African American, Hispanic, Indian, Asian, and Other).

How rich do you have to be to become Mayor. I think if you have to spend millions of dollars to become mayor, you should not be Mayor. We need someone who cannot be bought!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. BECKY NACE...solid credentials and contacts both north and south of the river.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Burke and Barnes are the one's who got us in this mess with TIF and it will climb up to $120 before long. This means lost of police, fire, street repairs and capital improvements. This is not a step in the right direction with Burke, who is not one to help the neighborhoods. Becky just might be the one. Beth has not done much yet and I don't think she will.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Check out the $million the law firm makes from the city each year off TIFS. [Burke] Just what we need more red ink.
