Kansas City needs women on top!!!

I'm a strong believer in diversity in every aspect of life, entertainment and local government. That's why a fact about employment disparity at City Hall is frustrating and must be corrected:

THERE ARE NO FEMALE DEPARTMENT DIRECTORS AT CITY HALL!!!

Certainly, it's odd for this blog to take up the cause of promoting women in power but so many in Kansas City have ignored the situation for far too long.

Also, decrying this Kansas City fact about yet another instance of employment disparity gives me an opportunity to list my two favorite quotes on the subject of women in power:

Steve Martin: "I believe you should place a woman on a pedestal - high enough so you can look up her dress."

And this quote from Col. Jessep, played by Jack Nicholson, in "A Few Good Men" is often cut short but taken in it's entirety, I think it's no less supportive of the cause of equal pay for equal work: "There is nothing on this earth sexier, believe me, gentlemen, than a woman you have to salute in the morning. Promote 'em all, I say, 'cause this is true: if you haven't gotten a blowjob from a superior officer, well, you're just letting the best in life pass you by."

Sadly, this isn't something that I can simply blame on Mayor Funky. In fact, responsibility for this horrible lack of equality at City Hall rests with City Manager Wayne Cauthen. Nearly a year ago, Kansas City spoke up for the City's first African-American City Manager and now it is time for him to promote or hire women as department heads in spite of current budget woes or any other excuses . . . It's past time to put women on top!!!

  1. Didn't there used to be a female head of finance? Why did she leave? Wasn't she one of Cauthen's people?

  3. diversity is crap. Even Wayne thinks so.

  4. Why do you worry about the gender or race of an employee? What ever happened to the best qualified? This is why the city got sued over the three judges and why the parks department is about to get sued as well.

  5. Why would a woman want to work here with crazy Funk running loose in the City. Tried to get rid of Wayne, fighting with the City Council, pouting about his wife's role in his office. I'd wait until an adult is installed back in the Mayor's office.
