The TKC late night post: A look at Mayor Funky's leadership in Kansas City!!!

Late night TKC readers know that today is the day when we'll see if The City Council is able to bring the shoeless reign of Gloria Squitiro to an end.

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing because the Mayor's wife has provided TKC with such great content. Still, the litany of complaints regarding racial slurs, bare feet at City Hall, inappropriate holiday letters and providing direction to paid staff would have had the lady booted from any other office in the nation. Only the privilege garnered by Mayor Funky and the clear abuse of his power have turned this into a distracting topic which has pretty much crippled him politically.

What this discussion has done is reveal that the Mayor and his wife are a package deal.

If the City Council overrides the Mayor's veto today then not only is Mayor Funky soon to be without his Co-Mayor but also he would face a third major political embarrassment a little less than halfway through his tenure.

The Mayor lost his fight to remove City Manager Wayne Cauthen.

The Mayor's effort to build regional light rail was a resounding failure.

This vote today will determine if the guy has even the least bit of clout at City Hall.

It's often noted that the role of Mayor is "weak" is Kansas City's form of government and never before has that been more apparent than during the reign of Kansas City's Co-Mayors Squitiro and Funkhouser. The man's pathological stubborness has led from one embarrasing failure to the next whether it's a member of a controversial vigilante group that he supported until she stabbed him in the back or an inability to form any kind of consensus on important issues while simultaneously holding personal grudges against anyone who questions his judgment . . . The dude just isn't much of a leader.

The bit of info that I'd like TKC readers to think about overnight . . .

TKC TIPSTERS TELL ME THAT IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS THE MAYOR HAS WENT TO COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND BEGGED PEOPLE TO TESTIFY ON GLORIA SQUITIRO'S BEHALF . . . NOT TO HELP IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME OR WITH SO MANY OTHER KC PROBLEMS BUT TO SPEAK OUT IN FAVOR OF GLORIA SQUITIRO'S UNSANCTIONED PRESENCE AT CITY HALL!!!

These stories made it back to TKC and should inform everyone in this town about the real priorities of Kansas City's highest elected official and the reason that so many are hoping that the City Council can do something to end the dangerous influence of an unelected (barefoot) person wielding undue, dangerous and dumbass influence in the office of Kansas City's Mayor.
