This isn't quite a TKC EXCLUSIVE(!!!) but I was pretty honored that this bit of IMPORTANT INFORMATION came from a very important TKC TIPSTER that has probably done more good for this community than the entire blogosphere combined.
THE RESULT OF KANSAS CITY'S FAILURE TO LIVE UP TO ITS PROMISE TO HIRE MORE COPS HAS NEARLY CREATED A KCPD WORKFORCE SHORTAGE!!!
The numbers add up more quickly than most people think and it's looks like it could develop into a serious lack of numbers that could leave Kansas City's police department understaffed according to sources that know a lot more about this stuff than I do. Check it:
I note that the city has reneged on the plan to provide 20 extra officers a year to KCPD for the past two years, leading to a 40 officer deficit. Combine this with the current hiring freeze and attrition and the department is down over 60 officers. Now I see that the city and the KCPD want to extend the tax to provide other items, like take-home cars. I wonder if tax payers will say "Fool me once......"?Unfortunately, Mayor Funky went on the record recently and said that "more police officers are not essential to fighting crime" during one of his useless press conferences. I beg to differ . . . So do many other people who believe that properly funding the KCPD and keeping promises to taxpayers is a big deal and the first step in a SERIOUS effort to fight crime.
Let's keep in mind the KCMO Police Dept. has stonewalled any of the recent attempts to create efficiences within their department.
ReplyDeleteThey have the best of both worlds; getting all the money they can from the City and then claiming they're really not part of the City (they are 1 of 2 state run police depts in the country) when it comes to merging back office functionality.
The reality is we need to return control of the KCMO PD back to it's citizens establishing local control and local accountibility.
I do agree though thast the Council failed to live up to the agreement we made to the taxpayers by not funding the 20 police officers each and every year.
Please, the KCPD answers to the Mayor and then the Mayor answers to his wife.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that.
The only good that'll do is put Tony in jail, which is a start but nothing too great.
If you buy a drill that the salesman tells you will work and it doesn't then you get a replacement or you go to another brand or another store. Too bad we don't have any options with our "so called Police " or "so called safety officers".
ReplyDeleteIf you needed more officers to feel safe before the last election and you didn't get any of what you paid for, then take care of yourself from now on with out the Police help. Buy e3xtra locks for your doors, load your gun, take a class and get a concealed permit and tell the liars to go to hell.
Get a rope.
ReplyDeleteIf Paris was a cop. I would be a criminal.
ReplyDeleteI'd hit it.
ReplyDeleteGive the police the proper funding.
ReplyDeleteIs that too much to ask?
VOTE NO on any money for the POLICE
