TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! FORMER MAYOR KAY THROWS OLD LATINO FRIENDS UNDER A BUS FOR HER CONGRESSIONAL BID!!!
Back when I was reporting for Dos Mundos I don't know how many B.S. Community meetings I had to sit through at which Mayor Kay would pledge her allegiance to the local Latino Community . . . She had connections, clout and a good working relationship with Latino Community leaders.
Sadly, in her run for Congress all of that seems to mean nothing given her current, misguided and amateurish attempt to garner votes.
The fact is, campaigning on illegal-immigration/anti-Latino rhetoric has been a loser for The Governor and a great deal of the Missouri House and Senate where Show-Me State Republicans are about to lose A LOT of seats. That's why a recent attempt to use anti-Latino/anti-Immigration rhetoric by Former Mayor Kay is not just a divisive move, it's just plain dumb.
Anyhoo . . . Here's the flyer that Mayor Kay thought would never make its way back to Kansas City:

Talk of this flyer is already circulating among Latino politicos and leaders in Kansas City . . . THEY ARE PISSED!!!
My big problem is that the 1st photo features classic stereotypical imagery used to frighten already terrified white people . . . Latinos aren't crawling under fences to get here . . . They're overstaying visas and taking planes, trains & buses just like the many African, Asian, Middle-Eastern and EVEN EUROPEAN illegal immigrants who also reside in Missouri.
Sadly, there is a catch-22 here given that this kind of stereotypical, implicitly bigoted and losing campaign tactic would normally sway my support for the other candidate . . . Sadly, I'm expecting Graves to adopt the same strategy sometime soon.
Unfortunately, while the rest of the nation is worried about The Economy, Gas Prices, The War in Iraq and The Environment . . . These two are fighting about who hates Mexicans more even though Latinos (illegal and otherwise) make up a relatively tiny fraction of Missouri's population . . . Maybe this explains why very few people are excited about this race between the two inferior candidates.

ReplyDeleteWhy would she care about Hispanics? Not a very big demographic in her district. Politicians care about getting elected. Period. No morals, no real friends, people are to be used. On the flip side her "friends" in the Hispanic community probably received jobs, money etc in exchange for their support. Why are they complaining? They sold out their community, why should Kay not sell them out?

Even those idiots are moving on to the economy, gas prices and the Iraq war. No wonder we, as Democrats, win the battles but lose the war. If Kay Barnes embraces this garbage and does not denounce it she is a cunt for the office she seeks. Have they hired granny semler to work on their communications staff?
ReplyDeleteThe war or the Mexicans is inconsequential. The truth is that Kay ran up Kansas City's credit cards when she was in office and left this town with a tremendous debt load and stuck with an incompetent City Manager. That is reason enough to avoid voting for her.

ReplyDeleteWhat most people don't know is that Barnes, when she was the head of the TIF Commission, approved the first ever TIF project in Kansas City. Guess what project that was? It was the first of multiple never ending phases of Bryarcliff which is being developed by rich cat Charles Garney. Guess where Barnes lives? You got it Sherlock, Bryarcliff. With all the undeserving tax incentives that have been doled out to rich developers at the expense of Kansas City Voters and the city's budget, shouldn't she be made accountable for her role in the current budget crisis? She needs to be confronted with this as she campaigns. It is not right to fuck up one office and then ask to be elected to a higher and potentially more damaging one. Don't vote for the bitch.

Were just getting a bunch of BS, Dems. should stick to the key issues, economy, high-oil prices, and the new 100 year war in Iraq if Graves is re-elected. And Mo. Dems should fire the corn-fed white-boy who had the idea to mail that flier.

ReplyDeleteBarnes is sneaky. When she ran for Mayor she would whisper that her husband is a Republican in certain venues. Her committee gave the council inexperienced Wayne Cauthen, a convicted sexual harassment and resigned ex City Manager, and a long retired small town City Manager as choices over more qualified applicants then promptly places an add in local newspapers like The Call bragging that she hired the first African American CM. She costs the city a million bucks in a lawsuit because she refused to select from three qualified women for a Judge position because none were black after claiming to be a founder of the womens movement. She has always been an opportunist and stands for nothing.
