Is it worth it to support a Kansas City business with horrible customer service?

Here is something to consider for Kansas City business people: The next customer you ignore, treat rudely or screw over JUST MIGHT HAVE A BLOG.

This is the best thing to happen to customer service since the advent of the door slam.

Local blogger Lynn lets loose with one of the best reviews I've read of a local camera shop and her attempt to buy locally.
Yesterday, I had a somewhat unfortunate experience with a local Kansas City business. Let me preface my story by saying that I try to support locally-run businesses whenever possible. However, I am not made of money, so I also like to get the most for my money when making a purchase.
What Lynn goes on to describe is a classic Kansas City instance of "screwing over the wrong person." And I've got to admit that I'll probably avoid the retailer she mentions.

And while bloggers have had virtually no impact on local politics, media or community organizing it's still nice that local business people might show a little bit more respect to clients with an ax to grind behind the safety of a computer screen . . . Or at least that's what I tell the strippers I'm trying to convince to provide a complimentary lap dance.

  1. I think it taught her a lesson more than supporting your local Kansas City business owner.

  2. Photografix has it coming. About two years ago, I heard a similar story about the rudeness of their staff. I don't know if you can mark it up to youthful asshattery or just plain stupidity, but given the facts that lenses and bodies go for about 20% cheaper online, you'd think they'd try being NICE to the mom-and-pop-shop's dwindling customer base.

  3. I have no idea how Photografix stays in business. A couple of years ago I attempted to rent a lens from them, set up the time I needed to pick it up, got there early and was left standing at the door. I guess the 9:00 am open was just a suggestion.
    Customer service??? Not happening there.
