Kansas City's (fake) smoking ban

I love this town. Only in Kansas City could local politicos and business leaders fail to agree that cancer is a bad thing.

Once again the media watching public was recently treated to another Kansas City Compromise: Nobody wins, nothing is accomplished and there's a lot of hard feelings.

Very nice.

Yesterday the City Council passed a smoking ban with more loop holes in it than a trech ring convention.

It wasn't a real ban . . . It was just a really bad and obvious way for a couple of council people to show that they were elected by bar and restaurant owners. Obviously, Bill Nigro runs KC's concern (or lack therof) about your lungs.

Here are a couple links concerning the topic:

Next up is the April 8th ballot option that I believe is a bit tougher but still not perfect . . . What exactly makes smoking and second hand smoke safer on casino floors? Again, TKC's smoking ban proposal is the only one worth mentioning: No smoking for everyone but really hot skanks. It's a public service that everyone can get behind. Natch.

  1. I'd prefer a ban on busybodies sticking their noses in other people's business.

  3. I'm still going to vote for the April 8th vote but I think it should include casinos as well.

  4. There's a simple step to correct this one. Some should just start a new petition to ban smoking on casino floors.
