TKC Undercover: A bit of info on how Gloria Squitiro's "Mammy" comment went down

TKC likes to look at Brit glam model Lucy Pinder

Here's the hardest part about being the most gully blogger in Kansas City . . . Sometimes I'm so far ahead of the curve that people think I'm crazy, lying or just can't believe the sheer strength, power and skill of this fully armed and operational battle station blog. Thankfully, it's not me . . . It's simply a manifestation of citizen media, AWESOME TKC Tipsters and the fact that my primary motivation is to entertain and enlighten rather than just push my agenda - Which is almost completely related to bikini models anyway.

Therefore . . . Since the local media have yet to pick up on it . . . I thought I'd provide a bit of background on "Gloria Squitiro's Mammy Slur" pieced together from a variety of different sources, hearsay and gossip that's going around City Hall along with some very accurate sources that have never led me astray. Again, I'm not using the names of the alleged victims in question but I will be going into a little bit more detail . . .

First things first: By now, loyal readers of this blog should know that Gloria Squitiro used the term "Mammy" to describe two African-American Female City Hall Employees.

Both of these employees work in the Mayor's office . . . Obviously, City Hall watchers and every political reporter in Kansas City already knows who I'm talking about but the layperson won't really know the names so I'm not going write them until they decide to come forward . . . Which might happen sooner rather than later.

To begin, the salary part of the EEOC complaint, that's already been documented in the pages of The Star, relates to the fact that one of these women is really at the low end of the scale in Mayor Funky's office in comparison the younger, less qualified and incompetent workers (i.e. Joe Miller) and isn't taking home anything close to the QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS that Ed Wolf is banking annually at the behest of Funkhouser. It's sad because this woman's support during the campaign was integral to Mayor Funky's narrow victory and SHE TOOK A PAY CUT TO JOIN HIM IN THE MAYOR'S OFFICE.

Her payback gets even worse . . . One day she decides to come into work wearing a head scarf. The Mayor's wife then refers to her as "Mammy" in a cheerful and completely ignorant manner. In what some people are describing as an attempt to "cover" the mistake, Ms. Squitiro then calls another female African-American employee in the Mayor's office "Mammy" who she believes she is "closer to" and wouldn't mind the insensitive remark. Ms. Squitiro ALSO uses the nickname "Bernie Mac" to address a Black female employee with a similar sounding name and that's just in bad taste given that Bernie Mac is a really great entertainer but has a rough edge, is a 50 year-old man and NOT a professional woman trying to be taken seriously in a field that hasn't historically been accessible to African-American females.

I can't verify whether or not the mammy slur took place during the course of one day or over a longer span but the use of the derogatory term was REPEATED by Squitiro after it was made clear that her knee jerk reaction to a Black woman in a headscarf was inappropriate.

That's kind of sad given that she could have totally gotten away with calling both of them Erykah Badu if she had kept a little more current with African-American culture and not relied on bigoted caricatures from the days of way back.

Also, anyone who knows anything at all about EEOC complaints knows that it's absolutely the LAST STEP for a professional person of color to file and it really represents a breakdown in communication and understanding in the Mayor's office.

A minor prediction: When leaders in the African-American community decide to pursue this issue, they're going to find out that Mayor Funky is every bit as stubborn as Latinos and Light Rail supporters have claimed.

The insistence that the Mayor "sticks to his guns" or "is a man of principle" is really just public relations spin regarding the fact that MAYOR FUNKY'S STUBBORNNESS IS A CHARACTER FLAW THAT HAS CONTINUALLY COST HIM AND THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS CITY!!!

Look at the situation objectively: The Mayor allowed a highly qualified African-American female employee to linger at the bottom of the pay scale and then an insult by an unpaid volunteer finally motivates the woman to complain . . . Throughout the entire situation Funkhouser couldn't allay her concerns or resolve the matter internally.

Since the offending action was taken by an unpaid volunteer who happens to be the Mayor's wife . . . Things really start to get interesting.

Word is that Black leaders in KC Proper have already got a hold of the story and are working to formulate a response. One of their main concerns will be Squitiro's unsanctioned, unregulated and improper role in the Mayor's office which smacks of nepotism. Remember that a so-called unpaid volunteer has NEVER held such a high ranking position in the Mayor's office and SINCE SHE'S NOT AN EMPLOYEE THERE'S ALMOST NO REGULATIONS RELATED TO HER CONDUCT. So far, the Mayor has not taken responsibility for her alleged actions. Therefore it has been rumored that a few leaders in the African-American community will also call for Gloria Squitiro to step down from her duties in the Mayor's office.

The lifespan of EEOC complaints can range anywhere from 6 weeks to 2 years. From what I'm hearing . . . African-American leaders in Kansas City are urging the victims in this case to come forward given that secrecy only helps to continue bigoted behavior from elected officals (and those with influence over them).

I can't say when any of this information is going to be distributed by the mainstream media but what has always given me comfort is that it's nearly impossible to keep a secret in this day and age and the stubbornness and insensitivity to so many members of KC's minority community on the part of the Funkhouser Administration is now becoming legendary.

  2. So is that why men like big boobs?

Tony is the biggest boob of them all.

  3. Good news for you Tony. Soon everyone will be calling the Black leaders in Kansas City liars instead of you.

  4. Is that the best you can do Tony? If it is, you are living proof that dark pigment is harmful to living brain cells.

Funkhouser will beat this unjust rap because no one south of the plaza is paying any attention to it. Look at Gone Mild and the collection of idiots who post there. Outside of two bleeding hearts, or maybe one bleeding heart using two IDs, everyone is saying you SUCK and so do whiny blacks who can't take a joke when they dress funny. Dan cleans their clock every time "they" make a post and you look like an idiot the longer you keep beating this dead horse. You are not worthy of sucking Dan's toes beaner boy.

  5. Gloria needs to go. These comments are just the tip of the iceberg. I think it'll will be telling of their administration when racists like the previous commenter are the only ones to support the Mayor on this issue. I'm thinking that a recall isn't a bad idea after all.

  6. Just keep on beating that dead horse buddy. That summons is sure to be in the mail soon.

I warned you. Don't go after another man's wife that is a rule that goes back to the days when your people were back across the border.

  7. Anonymous 10:08 cry me a river.

"By rights" you are right on. Funk will and should defend his wife. I am fed up with this "blame the white guy" first bull. Browns and blacks are failures because they can only do so much with the hand they were dealt by the Creator but I am not going to say that we have to dumb down everything in the name of equality in direct opposition to His work.

  8. All right Tony you've finally got enough details that I don't think you're COMPLETELY lying. I've talked to a couple of old friends down at the KC City Hall and they've confirmed what you've wrote that people are talking a lot about this story. Don't get a big head but some of them are even mentioning your blog and I would have never suspected they read this kind of garbage.

  9. wow ssidedem you are a true racist and bigot. You sound like one of those Christian identity lunatics. Please keep your hate in whatever cave you're living. If you're so smart then why are you SUBMITTING comments to Tony and you don't have a superior blog of your own. I guess God didn't make you a good enough writer huh?

  17. So, who's got the recall petition? I guess it's too late to get it on the February ballot, huh? Is there an April election in 2008?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Damn this is getting old. All of her mistakes, she needs to go for the good of her husband and Kansas City.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Like I've said so many times before:

Stay strong Mayor Funkhouser. Don't these special interest groups blackmail you.

    Now more than ever.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's nice that Tony shares with us what he's been flogging himself to lately. Still, that British Lucy girl has some great natural breasts.

    ReplyDelete
  21. How's that recall effort going in the blogosphere? Gaining a groundswell of momentum? Bwahahahahahaha!!!!! Recall!!! Blogosphere!!!

  22. snzzzzzzz...

What huh? Oh man that is one hot pic...more panties...less words.

  23. 1. White shoes REALLY should be banned. They are never appropriate, even with sexy thigh-high tights.
    2. Why does Funk's wife have a different last name? As someone who does not really follow local politics, I find it REALLY confusing.
    3. Having just returned from a weekend trip to New Orleans, I understand that Mammy is a term of endearment for those who slave away for you. Maybe Squitiro thought she was paying a compliment?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good luck with that recall! ROFL.

I'm glad you guys read the law and are so intimately familiar with its nuances, and aren't just blowhards whose only real "activism" is hiding behind a keyboard and impotently typing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. FYI, The employee in question WAS not wearing a head scarf or hat. She never wears a scarf and rarely wears a hat. The temperature must dip real low before she will even think of donning one. Thus there is no conceivable reason to make such a slip. Other than poor upbringing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alan Birch, I think you nailed it, lol.

Hey Ssidedem, I think Dan needs and very much wants your support on his blog, gonemild.com.

I can see why you like to post on Dan's blog, you guys go together like Tacos and salsa! Forgive the brownie analogy, but I figured, what the heck, we're on TKC.

You guys should check the Missouri adoption registry, I think you may be siblings separated in childhood by a gang of violent Mezkins or worse! God knows what travails you guys might have shared together as children, and then repressed the memories due to the trauma of the situation.

You might jog those memories through more online conversations with your potentially long lost brother.

Hope to read much more from you on gonemild.com.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My gosh, I'll bet that tastes like strawberries.
    Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mainstream, Dan KICKS YOUR ASS. Never forget that when you write your drivel. Dan OWNS YOU.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's really touching how you defend your brother like that.

    Really.

I can tell you two bonded during that violent Mezkin sieze of your house where you were originally separated. I bet you two may even have a sister out there, unconsciously yearning to be re-united.

    Wait a minute!

    Could it be..noooo..welll... YES!

    Ann Coulter?

Tres Amigos reunited! I want the movie rights to this story.

Again, I think more posts on gonemild.com will help bring out those repressed memories.

  30. Dan is gonna be so pissed.

  31. Sounds like the typical racial/sexual discrimination claim that usually gets tacked on to EEOC claims. Her salary claim seems like it may have merit but who knows about the mammy thing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks, TKC, for providing additional info regarding "Mammy-Gate". This is an unfortunate saga. But what really struck me, was the amount of irrelavent, insensitive comments regarding the subject. Seems people really DON'T have anything else to do. Those Insensitive jerks who dismiss another's injustice are also those who never saw the riot / revolution coming!

    ReplyDelete
  33. What's new? A black, female employee in the City Auditor's office in the late 1990's made an "audit report" about all the racist, elitist and incompetent acts and comments that happened during her tenure in the office when Funk was city auditor. The City Attorney's office really did a major investigation, and I don't know the results. Tony, get a copy of that unofficial audit. It was a bit sloppy, but still had some content worth paying attention to. So, maybe all the racism isn't just a sudden thing, maybe it's genetic in the Funk and Squit, and when you mate the two of them, voila, you get true diversity ignorance and insensitivity. Hell, it's spread rapidly in KC; all the latent sufferers have gotten full-blown cases. Is there a cure - or must we just wait for the time when evolution finally rids us of all the imbeciles strumming their banjos and hollering YeeeHaa for mayor funk.

    ReplyDelete
  34. its a shame that after all these years, white people particulary, but people in general, are still racist! y? none of us and i did say NONE of us belong here, including white people, but the indians so we should all pack our bags and go back to where we came from. kansas/johnson county might as well move down south. its just as racist. and why does the mayors wife feel she can say what she wants cause shes the mayors wife? theres consequences to racism and plain rudeness. she better be glad that woman didnt smack the Sugar Honey Ice Tea out of her for that! if that black woman made a comment about her not actually being an employee but having the same priveleges, she wld have got fired! i hope that Funky bastard and his wife get put out of office AND the country!
