Funkhouser's stubbornness has him slipping in the polls (nullus)

The Mayor's poll numbers are horrible for a guy who has only been in office a few moths.

Here are the highlights:

Mayor Funkhouser's approval rating IS BELOW 50%, with 37 percent of residents disapproving. To put it plain and simple: Mayor Funky isn't anywhere close to being as popular as Country Club Kay . . . And that can't be good.

Here's another good stat: KC politics isn't as important as most people thing and neither the NCLR or the Minutemen have much pull despite all the recent publicity:

"Almost 45 percent of those surveyed for KCTV said they were unfamiliar with the controversy over Funkhouser appointing Frances Semler, a member of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, to the local park board."

71 percent of Hispanics surveyed said Semler should remain on the park board - Now that's just plain weird. But interesting. On a similar note, I was at 3 meetings in the past few weeks with Latino leaders that represented more than a dozen different organizations across the metro and 99% of them wanted her to step down.

But I'll believe almost anything from KCTV5.

I think the most important thing here is the challenge to the stupid notion set forth by a few media outlets that Mayor Funky is universally beloved as some kind of reformer. The fact is, as always, Kansas City is a divided town now across racial lines and almost no politico enjoys universal support.

There is little argument with the FACT, that Mayor Funky has almost completely lost support in the urban core . . . No mayor has managed to effectively govern KC without support from this part of town. If Mayor Funky's stubbornness continues unabated, I'm sure these numbers will only get worse and he has nobody to blame but himself . . . And his shoeless wife.

  1. Bad news for the Mayor. Bad news for Kansas City.

This really is a lose/lose situation.

  2. Given the close election results and the loyalty of the brooks people dont you think this approval rating is indicitive of that? I could be wrong here , but it seems like those that disapprove are comprised mainly of the brooks people.

  3. That could be the first intelligent comment I've read on this site for weeks.

I think you have a good point. I can only hope that the Mayor finds a way to move toward reconciliation with Brooks backers and get him on the side of the his administration.

  4. I think the point that deserves attention here is that Yeal was just trumpeting Funkhouser's high poll numbers last week -- like the city agreed with him by backing Fascist Francie.

Yael's numbers were cooked and he probably knew it -- once a crooked cheerleader, always a crooked cheerleader. Any first year political science student (read: not the brightest bulb in the box) would know that the high numbers Yael was spoon feeding the public were attributable to a non-representative sample population. This latest poll has a larger sample size and more (but not completely) representative demographic profile. The lower poll numbers represent less likely voters who ARE STILL CITIZENS! Their opinions still exist and should be measured if we want to understand the growing division in this city.

Once again, Yael is caught in what I view as a lie.

  5. Didn't the mayor only win about 51% of the vote, if I recall correctly?

  6. and does it appear that he is losing ground since this statistically valid poll shows him below 50 percent? One would assume that a mayor doing a good job would have picked some percentage of his opponents voters, this shows he is even losing his own.

    Thanks Gloria

  7. Please refrain from the inference that Funkhouser is a "Goat."

  8. A poll of 750 Kansas City residents.

    Man thats overwhelming numbers-force!

    Hahahaha! Get it?

Tony? Hello? Hello? Is there anybody out there?

  9. the poll that showed him with a huge approval rating was of 400 highly likely voters and was conducted for the chamber of commerce.

  10. Yet a second poll:

"It found that 67 percent those surveyed, all registered voters, thought Funkhouser was doing a good or excellent job."

Even with poorly worded questions like:

"La Raza and the NAACP, both civil rights organizations, are threatening to pull their conventions..."

When they hadn't even commited to KC in the first place.

    Dorks. Funk is fine.

  11. diego what you don't know is that the poll you're citing was created to help push a popular tax.

Stop drinking Gloria's kool-aid. Think for yourself. The Funk has lost support. If he's not careful he'll end up nearly as popular as Tony.

I think he could have handled the whole thing a lot better.

I voted for him and I'd like to see him do some of the things he talked about rather than going on the defensive as he's done here.

    Steel plates? Anyone.

  12. Can anyone even imagine hiring Gloria to help "birth a baby?"

OOPS! Guess those are tonsils! Oh well Funk will defend me!
