I think I linked it earlier but for the most part I'm ignoring the VFW convention in Kansas City this week.
Why?
Because it's not important.
There have been some inconsequential speeches and a few platitudes given to care for the great many disabled veterans returning from Iraq but for the most part the KC VFW convention seems completely skewed to the last remaining factions who support the war in Iraq as Hillary's pandering speech seemed to point out by catering to this small, yet vocal crowd.
Yet I always thought the image and political representation offered up by KC's VFW didn't acknowledge the diversity of viewpoints held by a disparate group simply lumped together with the term: veterans.
For instance, there's little talk of the significant contingent of Iraqi vets who oppose the war and even those calling on soldiers to refuse to fight.
But for the most part, just like everything else, Kansas City works in stereotypes and this image of a group of vets untied in their support of the war just doesn't exist in reality.
The fact is that veterans do vote in record numbers, they are the only people who have to deal with the horrible realities of the decision to take this country to war BUT THEY DON'T all vote the same way . . . Even if naive presidential candidates want to cater to the group in KC as if they did.
Now the homeless will have somewhere to go
