The City Council promising to spend more money on blighted areas in KCMO by putting the renewal of 1-cent sales for KC capital improvements on Nov. 6 ballot . . . In JoCo, they want to renew a quarter-cent retail sales for public safety stuff like jails, building a juvenile detention and services campus, and construct a crime lab . . . But I think they're really just going to spend it on hair dye, emo music and the invisible force field that keeps it so nice over there . . . And keeps their grass looking greener.

All of these taxes are touted as having a limited life of X years.
ReplyDeleteOf course when they are about to expire, the call goes out to renew them for some new project. In the City of Kansas City, MO in some CID's (Community Improvement Districts) which levy an additional tax, the % can exceed 10%.
It's almost comical that Kansas City areas have sales tax rates over 10%, yet New York City's rate is 8.375.
But the next time you eat out in NYC look at your receipt. They tax you several times for that privilege. Same way in Chicago too.
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:50 . . . you are a dumbass. If you don't like the tax don't vote for it. If you like it, renew it. Would you prefer that it was in there permanently? I for one don't mind voting on issues over and over. It might slow things down but at least it makes leaders respond to the public.
ReplyDeleteI say NO to the renewal. There's only 15% allocated to maintenance, so the rest of it can go to pleasing developers and construction interests.
