With no formal power, a one day event hosting every most of the usual suspects associated with KCMO Schools seems to be a monumental waste of time and money . . . Something KC Schools do better than anybody else . . . Remember this is the same guy who fumbled over the school vouchers idea and the quickly had to retreat . . . It's without question that the Mayor has little experience or involvement with KCMO Schools and his "Education Summit" seems like nothing but a demonstration of his astounding ego.
Maybe it's a good idea . . . You tell me.
But what will it accomplish? Seems like just another local bull session where the Mayor can make an appearance can claim that he "cares" without actually changing anything. He did the same thing while posing in front of potholes during his campaign yet I haven't seen a single steel street cover removed . . . Which is why he got elected and has nothing to do with his will to PLAY PROFESSOR in front of the biggest crowd he can muster.
Without any goals, without any verifiable results this silly "summit" seems to be nothing more than the same old kind of PR trick we've had from every Mayor on a variety of subjects.
Also, I'm pretty sure the Mayor (or anybody else) will ignore the COMPLETE FAILURE of the KCMO School District to address the more than 50% dropout rate of Latino students attending KCMO Schools . . . In fact, whenever anybody raises this topic and points to the School District's nearly criminal negligence concerning this matter they are met with only doctored stats (which ignore the "disappearance" of hundreds of students from elementary and onto high school) and the same kind of pointless talk that the Mayor is going to celebrate.

What a stupid idea. What really needs to be done is for the mayor to lift each and every one of the school board members a couple of feet off the ground via the end of one of his size 16s.
ReplyDeleteUntil the KC School Board does its job, until the voters quit putting complete failures in the school board seats, nobody gets to bitch about anything.
Any group of voters that repeatedly puts the likes of Joel Pelofski in office deserves what it gets. A shitty school district.
Feel good retreats and summits reek of 1990's corporate fads. Sounds like Funk and other councilmembers have been to one too many team building seminars.
Gloria was pouting all over City Hall when Jan Marcason insisted on hiring a professional facilitator for the Mayor/Council Retreat rather than letting Funky lead it. This must be a "do over" to make Shoe-less Gloria smile.
ReplyDeleteThis mayor's office is a mess, I think you should start an Oust Gloria Campaign, Tony.
Good insights anonymous, Pelofsky should have hung'em up in the 70s. I think he does Ingrid Burnett's hair as well, or maybe he was the ink man that put that tat on her ankle.
Ingrid Burnett has an ankle tat? Thanks a lot Kafka. I just threw up in my mouth a little.
ReplyDeleteMarcason is a non-profit exec. There's an old saying. The only thing non-profit execs know how to do is not make a profit. Jan has to throw all her B-list non-profit buddies some work.
Shoeless Glo needs to go!
The Mayor knows the best way to distract from his incompetence as to the tasks he is assigned is to poke his nose into other people's assignments under the auspices of assistance.
ReplyDeleteThis way he appears to be working while all his real work sits dormant and ultimately nothing is accomplished for regular (or irregular) folks.
