TKC blocked by KCMO City Hall

I recently received an e-mail from a reporter employed by The Star informing me that my blog has been blocked at KCMO City Hall. The e-mail was a request for an interview which I hope still stands after I write this post but I thought my loyal readers (i.e. you d-bags) deserved to know first.

I guess the first thing that comes to mind is that the action is a sure sign that the Funkhouser Administration is without a doubt petty and averse to criticism. However, I guess I should note that I don't know where the block of my site originated from . . . It could be that City Manager Cauthen just doesn't like the "Cauthen Countdown" and this blog chronicling his last days of employment with the City. But I'm just gonna go ahead and blame Mayor Funky because the buck stops with him whether he likes it or not.

Also, it's good to know that my former buddy Joe Miller isn't looking out for me at all . . . As the Funky Communications Director his hand was probably somewhere in the decision.

And to put this in perspective . . . Let's remind you folks of one thing . . . Former Mayor Barnes never blocked this site!!!

And I was every bit as rough with her administration as I have been with the Funky regime.

But instead of making any kind of bold statement I guess what really comes to mind are a few questions:

  • How is enforcing what the "regular folks" at City Hall can and can't read the move of a real reformer?

  • Are the mayor and his staff so thin skinned that they have to run and hide from a joke/satire/sarcastic blogger?

  • What about the "regular folks" who comment on this blog or have sites that I link from time to time? I should note here that the Mayor's campaign worked the blogosphere pretty thoroughly during the election but now to start banning blogs seems as YET ANOTHER betrayal of the things he said he believed in before the election. By the way, if he was just gonna ban people like me for practicing free speech and freedom of the press maybe I wouldn't have produced a video for him.

  • And for his supporters: How does this kind of censorship or at the very least thwarting of citizen media, citizen voices distinguish the mayor from any other politician?

And with this one I'm not asking anybody to stand with me or support me in any kind of cause . . . I'm sure that the people who want to read my site at City Hall can find another way to access this blog either at home or through a mobile device. But, in the end this action must ultimately be answered for by the Mayor's administration (dun-dun-dun!!!!) and makes it seem as if the only free speech Mayor Funky endorses is the kind that supports him.

Also . . .It's pretty damn gully and hardbody that this block of my blog proves the TKC is the most alternative of all local media outlets . . . In the Mayor's defense I guess I should note that maybe it was just an attempt to bolster productivity given that his staff wasn't getting any work done because they were spending all day trolling my comments . . . I hear they have the same problem at The Pitch.

TKC posts a lot of rude remarks, crass jokes, funny photos from the internet, scantily clad celebrity models but every now and then there is a bit of information on this blog about topics that have an impact on Kansas City and I do my best to provide a forum and encourage criticism & commentary from anyone about every topic I cover . . . Mayor Funky blocking this site only makes him blind to what thousands of people in Kansas City are reading every day . . . And it's just kinda sad that the former bean counter has progressed this far in City government without learning that "problems" (people?) won't go away simply because you (try to) ignore them.

    1. City Hall probably blocked your site because of your poor English -

It's "...every now and then there is a bit of information on this blog about topics that HAVE AN impact ON Kansas City".

Oh, and because you're a racist...

    2. Get real. There isn't anything on this blog that isn't already out there. How do you get your head out the door?

      ReplyDelete
    3. Grammar Nazi Girl. That's completely acceptable (given the colloquial nature of blogs) and if you're going to get this anal you should probably just post photos.

And you're criticism won't do any good. I e-mailed Tony the scoop on this story a week ago and obviously he trusts the Star reporters more than his readers.

    4. Funkhouser's so far out of his depth, the only thing he can do is curl up in a ball, sobbing "make the noise go away!"

    5. Hmm... a lot of corporate web filters will automatically block out websites with excessive profanity or images that might be deemed offensive... you don't have any of those things on your website, do you? I wouldn't take it as a personal offense.

    6. being a city employee i know for a fact that funk didnt do that. even when whats her name was mayor the citys it dept would block any website that show women in bikinis or profanity so dont flatter yourself. the funk could care less about this blog.

    7. So that begs the question: Why wasn't TKC blocked earlier when Barnes was in charge?

    8. Viva Tony!

      Congrats on a well-earned honor!

    10. Oh Tony...Don't get all bent out of shape. So they blocked you.

You routinely edit out and block comments that point their digs at you.

      Stop being a whining pussy

      ReplyDelete
    11. Why don't you call up the Mayor and ask him why? Got balls?

      ReplyDelete
    12. You know that's bullshit on ya'll bloggers for not supporting free speech.

Tony can edit his comments because he runs this blog. But those computers and the internet connection belong to the city.

So they saying that anybody who criticized the mayor can't be seen on the City's computers. And that comment about offensive images. This site is tame compared to most other blogs and I guess that means that anything on the level of a Victoria's secret commercial is supposed to be offensive now?

When did the mayor become in charge of censorship? And if the mayor can keep this blog or any other one out of City Hall then the same goes for cultural centers too.

You bloggers better wise up before the only ones who are allowed to post are the ones who support the mayor.

    13. Whatever.

I'm just so sick of nothing but election posts.

There is so much more going on in Kansas City than the mayor.

Get over it Tony. You lost. Move on.

    14. I guess 11:46 am didn't read the part of the message where you made a campaign video for Funkhouser?

Its hilarious to watch these diehard Funkhouser fans do anything to defend this guy. Its obvious that you were blocked just like they tried to block you at the County a year or two back and had to correct it.

    15. Charles -

"And you're criticism won't do any good..." is, of course, incorrect: the word you deperately needed there was YOUR.

YOUR grammitical error was as unacceptable as TKC's, though I do believe you about his head being firmly stuck up his...

    16. This is both funny and awesome! Mayor Funk is quickly proving himself to be a double-speaking sham with shallow ethics and a general lack of critical thinking skills. In the internet war of ideas, it's pretty clear that Mayor deFunk just got TKO'ed by TKC. If the mayor can't stand on the merit of his own ideas and policies, then the default strategy of Mayor Funk-Loser is obviously just to block the other person's ideas. I'm just surprised that the mayor couldn't think of something more creative than that. That's really disappointing, but history has always reiterated the fact that poor leaders are inherently averse to quality criticism; otherwise it should be obvious that the oppositition's (any opposition's) criticism would just fall by the wayside instead of having to be banned. By any standard, this situation is a pretty clear victory for you here, dear brotha. If I were you, I'd take some consolation snack cakes to the mayor's office since he's obviously struggling. Tell him I said hi. It's gonna be a long four year for that guy. Peace.

    17. It is a joke blog. What does it matter that it can't be seen thru city hall provided web access?

      ReplyDelete
    18. Chillz, the point is that it's an automated piece of software that's blocking Tony's blog, not Mayor Funkhouser himself. I really doubt that the mayor gives a crap what Tony writes about him... I think it's more of an employee productivity issue than anything else.

      ReplyDelete
    19. It's called "websense" and while not so fun for employees the more sites you block the less opportunity you give them for fucking around instead of working.

They (as well as I) shouldnt be reading your fuckass site when they are supposed to be working on the cities dime.

      ReplyDelete
    20. Pretend Issue: City blocks employees from reading a site light on content and heavy on bullshit (this one.) City employees have no legitimate reason to waste time reading said bullshit site (this one).

      City blocks site. Tony whines.

Real issue: Tony pissing and moaning that Funk won, looking for any excuse no matter how stupid to whine about it. As if Funk is sitting there pondering ways to personally fuck Tony over.

I'm quite sure Tony that the mayor, like most people who read your site, view you as a lot of idiot wind. It's a bit silly to think this as to be anything more than an inadvertent block due to the parade of skin photos and endless profanity in the comments.

Don't give yourself so much credit that you actually believe people take you seriously. Because they just don't. It's more of a sad affair. Like, "Hey, I wonder what silly racial bullshit spin Tony can put on the lack of Harry Potter books at the public library?"

    21. It's always funny and refreshing to note the limitless absurdity of white people when they scratch and claw to deny the obvious. Wait, wait, don't tell me: It was an anonymous "computer program" that blocked TKC.

Yeah, of course, that makes sense; especially considering that computer programs couldn't possibly be made, directed, and have their preferences set by humans that pick and choose which sites to block!

      ReplyDelete
    22. Its funny how these people furious with the County when TKC was blocked no more than a year ago. But when Funkhouser does the same exact thing, all of the sudden they give him a free pass (as usual) and say its a "program".

      Pushovers.

      ReplyDelete
    23. Maybe now the city employees at City Hall can actually work instead of committing your site. Alot of people spend more time on the computer while at work.

      ReplyDelete
    24. Maybe your blog was banned because some of the photos you post aren't exactly appropriate for a professional work setting (not that you would know what that means).

      ReplyDelete
    25. hey tkc how does it feel to get bite on the ass. funk is just doing to you what your momma and the puppet master has tried to bullly him into doing what they want. kudos to the funk for that

      ReplyDelete
    26. It appears that the Big Brother types in City Hall have closed down the ability to make comments on Funk's Front Porch -- Goldstein, if you are monitoring this the thought police may be coming for you!

From now on, the information travels one way across the front porch, so listen up and take notes and you will keep your noses out of trouble.

My guess is that a new edition of the dictionary will come next. Followed by the usual round of purges -- OOPs sorry Joe.

(Yes, Emmanuel Goldstein, I have read 1984 too -- and your posts as well.)

      ReplyDelete
    27. It is hilarious how much attention you think you get. You remind me of Dale Gribble on King of the Hill who thinks everyone is out to get him. I would bet $20 that Funk doesn't even know your site exists. Don't give yourself so much credit-nobody takes you serious. Creep.

      ReplyDelete
    28. I'm wondering when Tony wil stand up and speak out at one of the town hall meetings. You are tough behind your keyboard but in person you're a puss. Step up to the plate big man.

      ReplyDelete
    29. Tony, now it is pretty clear what demoted politicos and other serpent handling Funk-Followers have to do with their time now. You called them on their political ineptitude and at times bigotry) and now they are going to beat you up on your own blog. Bad Tony, Heel!

At least that offensive should last until the next Star Trek or Star Wars convention comes to the region. The Funk hardcore will not be able to resist kook magnets like that and the number of posts should fall off.

    30. Tony here's Kay Barnes phone number......(816) 333-4775 . You can tell her what a great person she was and you want to ask her out on a date.

    31. Tony
Question---have you tried to add your link to funk's front porch website?? Be interesting to see if you are added or added, then subtracted.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I have personally spoken with all of Funk's staff members and I can testify that not only are they clueless, they definitely are aware of TKC. You can send the $20 bucks to Tony dbag 11:12AM!
