Yael Abouhalkah yanked himself out of the race for downtown cheerleader of the year award today when he finally faced reality regarding the inevitable failure of the P&L District.
Here are a few of the better reason why Kansas City is on the line for a lot of loot when the thing doesn't attract visitors who could go to the movies and/or shopping some place more convenient (with better parking and without the fear of homeless bastards killing and robbing them):
And that's not gonna happen because downtown is nearly abandoned right now seeing that those stats about 16k people already living downtown were nothing but propaganda put out by the Downtown Council AND there's no reason to visit the chains that are more easily assessable, enjoyable and better secured in the suburbs.
The whole thing was a misguided notion anyway . . . Thinking that cute restaurants and childish attractions would save downtown . . . If they were serious they'd legalize gambling along with prostitution and cock fighting (no homo) . . . The sad fact that nobody wants to mention is that Downtown Kansas City's heyday was decadent and filled with vice (and the ensuing STD's) . . . There's no going back to those days and sadly it's going to take millions in debt to convince downtown cheerleaders that they've been misled.
Today Abouhalkah did his best to get himself of the hook, despite the fact that the bastard has cheered voter approval of these subsidies and tax breaks for downtown developments for years.
Wait, if there's no one living downtown and no one does or ever will go there, then doesn't that mean there's lots of parking?
ReplyDeleteIt's a paradox or probably tony is just crazy from complaining.
ReplyDeleteI drove by the P&L District via Main yesterday. Coming dead west out of the Sprint Center is a giant blvd leading directly to the project.
ReplyDeleteWith it's proximity to the arena, it would seem nearly impossible to fail.
There is a double-wide street leading out of the arena and directly into the district.
Why do you live in this city Tony?
ReplyDeleteYou never shut the hell up about all the bad stuff that is happening. When something positive happens you spin so it looks like crap. Stop your bitchin and move to another city. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Regardless of whether the place is nice or pays for it's self. Yael will need to take a good portion of the blame for the fiasco as he NEVER called for cooler heads when the discussion was whether to spend millions taking other people's property to hand over to the Cordish Bros. for an entertainment shopping center. Is there anything as uninspiring as a brand name series of entertainment venues? Yael needs to spread a lot more crocodile tears before YOU let him take his feet off the fire.
ReplyDeleteImpossible to fail? Sure, just look at all the retail and dining prosperity alongside Kemper Arena.
ReplyDeleteWe'll just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't work you can always write Barnes a letter or call her on her home phone.
ReplyDeleteYep. Another day. More fucking crybaby bullshit about "DOWNTOWN WILL FAIL DUE TO X."
ReplyDeleteAny more predictions Chicken little?
