1st cell phone comic book comes from KC

Kansas City writer Sean Demory and Lee’s Summit artist Steven Sanders are the duo responsible for Thunder Road.

Here is a description of the web comic which is touted as "The first comic book series created exclusively for North American cell phone customers" :
Thunder Road is a multi-panel, manga-style comic series, described as a “slow-apocalyptic, dieselpunk action adventure” set in an alternate middle-America. The series follows the trials of Merritt, a soldier/circuit rider working for the Department of Transportation who travels America’s Great Plains, a ravaged and desolate land suffering the consequences of decades of global atomic warfare.
Today, The Star ran an article on the pair with a short interview and some details about their work and background along with how the project was developed.

Here is an even longer fanboy interview with the creators.

And while this kind of thing really isn't my cup of tea . . . A quick look at a snappy movie preview of the project makes it seem worthwhile . . . If only my cell phone wasn't so low tech that it still has a rotary dial.

And, since this is a blog and it wouldn't be right to avoid "hating" on someone else's success . . . I should note that there are some purists out there who counter that Thunder Road really isn't a comic book.

  1. Hiya Tony!

I live in KC. (Waldo in particular) I think I misunderstood what McTavish was asking when he asked where I was from. I was born in KC and lived in LS from 3-18.

Anyhoo. We'll have a print version out eventually, so you can read it like a real comic if you would like. :)

    best,

    steven
