UNITED WE STAND

I just got back from the press conference against the Minutemen. It's gonna be all over the news tonight. If you see a guy wearing a brown pancho and a sombrero while giving the camera the bird, THAT'S ME!!!

Anyway, Latinos from all walks of life came out against the appointment of one of the Minutemen to the Parks Board. My favorite statement was from Lali Garcia, she's 80 years old, she has worked tirelessly in her community for DECADES and she even helped to get Funkhouser elected as the defacto prez of La Raza political club . . . She didn't speak too long but her words held a lot of meaning, she strongly opposed the appointment of this Ms. Semler and she stood united with a group of folks arguing the same position. Seeing an old lady like that stand up for something she believed in so strongly was truly inspiring.

Additionally, just for today and maybe until Funkhouser eventually caves . . . Beth Gottstein is the best City Council person around and I guess she is a "Hispanic Advocate" after all. She started her statements boldly saying that she was a grandchild of immigrants.

John Sharp was pretty impressive as well and Cindy Baker Circo stood with the group too.

The final City Council person to speak was Terry Riley who said that there would be a resolution calling for Ms. Semler's resignation.

Word is that Funkhouser is sticking to his guns on this one and I don't know why, the group today was pretty quick at battling media tricks questions. They didn't put the decision on Parks Board President John Fiero. They didn't say this was about immigration but maintained throughout the press conference that the focus of their protest was against a member of a vigilante group, a group tied to neo-Nazis and other racist organizations being placed on a influential City Board.

All things considered it was pretty amazing and a clear sign that Mayor Funkhouser shouldn't play the efforts of these folks off as a joke and should ask the Minuteman member of the Parks Board to resign.

More importantly, new Parks Board member Aggie Stackhaus could totally redeem herself in my eyes by calling for a repeal to the KC ban of the 40oz . . . Which is the probably the issue TKC cares about the most!!!

We all have our causes . . . Speaking of, I just got word that the Mayor has a press conference of his own planned with new Parks Board President John Fiero . . . I'm kinda curious as to what's gonna happen and I don't wanna speculate but I am SURE there is pressure on Fiero to support the Mayor. Thing is, what I saw today was the leadership of the entire LATINO COMMUNITY COME OUT AGAINST THE MINUTEMEN backed up by LEADERS FROM THROUGHOUT KANSAS CITY and that's way more important that one one person's statement . . . Except for TKC, of course.

UPDATE: John Fiero sold out the entire Latino Community on this issue and stood up for the Mayor saying that "he could work with" the member of a hate group . . . Still, it's another example that no single voice represents that Latino Community . . . People from several Latino organizations across the city spoke out against the action while just one guy that the Mayor appointed begrudgingly wanted to just move on and I'm guessing the media will report them as equal contingents - NOT TRUE but we'll see.

Also, the council voted 9-2 in favor of a resolution regarding getting Semler off the Parks Board . . . Again, the Mayor stuck to his guns and IGNORED a bunch of folks getting together to ask him to hear their voices . . . TKC's only question: How is this responsible and responsive City government? Seems just like the same old kind of political maneuvering.

  1. Oh, God forbid someone in city government should be a member of a group that is opposed to people doing something illegal. Wanting to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country isn't racist, it's THE LAW!!! That's why they are called ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!

  4. She's a member of a group that openly uses violence and biggotted acts to oppose illegals. Shooting at illegals is, well, illegal. I think its hipocritical for someone to claim they care about "upholding the law" by using illegal means and making racist statements. If they don't like Mexicans coming to our country, they should have the balls to say, "we hate Mexicans coming over" This whole, "we're protecting our borders" is bullshit. the majority of terrorist that come into our country are coming in through Canada. People who are pissed about illegals need to get a life and quit using rightwing, false propaganda to justify their racist feelings towards minorities.
As for you Tony. I saw you there. Funny thing is, I didn't see your fat ass in a sombrero and a pancho giving the finger to anybody. I saw you hiding in the back of the crowd like a little coward. What's the matter? Did you feel too stupid for bashing Beth now that she's helping your mom's efforts. At least you gave her credit for today. You're still an ass.
Speaking of your mom, she was GREAT today. You could learn something from her you racist, ignorant, fatass. What, no sexy picture with this blog? You really do suck!!!

  5. Funk was elected by the Northland and the Ward Parkway corridor, and that he payed lip service to the rest of us was just that, a lip job. Funny how Yael and the rest of the KC Star bunch has been mostly silent on this. Guess Shanin and Yael and the Ruckus group will poo-pah this as just attacking a white Granny.

  6. Until you can separate in your minds the difference between illegal and legal immigration, people will continue to hate you and your community.

Pretending that overstaying a visa is the same as passing through ellis island is asinine. Until you realize this you will get unflagging resistance until your people become the numerical majority.

As citizend we have the right collectively to decide whether we want to let all, some, or no immigrants in our country at any time.

And Tony, you live in bubble. Don't know if you're aware, but just poll residents regarding their tolerance of illegals in Kansas City and you'll find woeful little support for your "cause."

You and your group are on the wrong side of the law, and Mark Funkhauser IS listening to his electorate. You aren't the majority opinion on this, no matter how loud and relevant you think you are. Legal citizens in this country still run this country. And now you'll see the power we have.

When was the last time you have seen that happen? In my opinon, That says a lot about the seriousness of this situation and shuts up all talk of a extremist latino political agenda.

    - John is just one of many leaders in the community. He along with those protesting Semler do a great job. Many if not all of those standing up for the community also supported Funkhouser in this election. So if they feel deceived, they have every right to question a very poor judgement that slaps at the face of the community.

"You would rather ruin John's great opportunity by pushing your own agenda."

    - Since when has this possibly had the potential to ruin John's "Great opportunity"? Did the Mayor threaten John by saying stand with me or lose your seat? If so, the community and press should know. Knowing local politics quite well, I personally think that was the case. I would've done it differently John, but then again it wasn't your mistake to fix, it was that of Funkhouser which he failed to do.

"Tell me this-how many of those poeple in your picture are active in the Northeast where a majority of Kansas City's immigrant population actually is? Please let me know when you find out."

    - Many of them are active on more than just a city level.

American Latinos! It's Time to Smell the Patronization
Culture War Gabriel Garnica, Senior Writer
    June 14, 2007

Many writers, including myself, have argued for years that liberals take patronization to a new level, converting it into a science. Their distortion of affirmative action amounts to nothing more than institutionalized patronization, declaring that minorities could not get out of a paper bag unless the government provided a federal program and tons of money to help them out. What makes matters worse, these patronization experts also happen to be proficient peddlers of another set of destructive myths.

These toxic lies are victimization, socialized defiance, historical ignorance, perpetuated dependence and political slavery.

I do not have the time, space nor stomach to get into all the ways that the liberal, the corrupt and the greedy manipulate minorities for their own selfish benefit, nor do I feel strong enough to detail the tragic, pathetic, clueless and offensive way that many minorities fall hook, line and sinker for this bill of goods. However, I find that the current illegal immigration debate has all of the ingredients and sordid angles found in the vast array of other instances of such abuse and manipulation, so I will limit this piece to that issue and the minority group most affected by it. Oh, one more thing, lest someone call me a racist, disloyal Latino for speaking the truth, I will have you know that I am simply a proud Latino who loves this country and my culture and people too much to simply stand by and watch hypocrites greedy for money and votes mock and manipulate them at will.

    The New Slave Class
As retired INS and FBI agent and college professor George Weissinger, PhD has so eloquently and forcefully stated, the so-called “immigration reform” being peddled by the liberal, the greedy and the clueless is nothing more than the creation of a new slave caste system.

Corrupt Mexican officials are literally escorting their underclass across the border in an ingenious and sinister two-for-one deal. They get rid of poor and uneducated and gain the money those same people send back home. I strongly doubt, for example, that professional, educated Mexicans are creeping under a fence at this very moment looking for a better life.

Half of those crossing the border illegally are only out for themselves, as evidenced by the high crime rates cited by Dr. Weissinger and others. The other half are vulnerable people seeking a better life intoxicated by a promise perpetuated by greedy and corrupt people on both sides of the border. Either way, this social class is just what the doctor ordered for greedy businesses that care little about either the immigrants themselves or the nation we call home. At the end of the day, much of illegal immigration is about using the vulnerable, poor, uneducated and unlawful for self-benefit on either side of the border.

It strikes me that the American Civil War was fought to end slavery wherein a given class of people was treated as chips in a poker game without regard to their humanity, dignity and self-determination. History shows that the Democratic Party created the KKK to keep this class down and protect that party’s political hold on the South. Ironically, that same party is now seeking to maintain its political hold anywhere by creating victim groups it can then champion, manipulate, patronize and use politically. Illegal immigrants are such a group and, through savvy media manipulation, the plight of illegal immigrants has been painted as the plight of all immigrants and Latinos in general.

Somewhere along the line, some shifty (redundant?) liberal figured out that instead of keeping African-Americans down, the Democratic Party should have painted them as victims of greedy Republicans, turned their cause into a propped up liberal crusade, given them the vote right away and then enjoyed the fruits of that group’s eternal gratitude in economic and political currency.

Ironically, most African-Americans today remain loyal to a party whose history is nothing but a legacy of manipulation, deception and distortion of a questionable racial past.

Well, these same liberals seem determined to learn from their past mistakes. This time around, they are actively seeking the perpetuation of this slave caste class with the right to express eternal gratitude in votes. As if often the case with liberals’ victim group of the month, they care little about the humanity, integrity, dignity and future of these people. They are, however, very adept at appearing to care, and that seems to be enough these days.

Simply put, the so-called immigration reform movement is partially perpetuated by forces merely seeking to manipulate and abuse vulnerable, poor, uneducated people by fostering and defending their right to enter this nation illegally. It is one vile act to use people for one’s political, social and political advantage. However, one brings down the vile quotient a notch upon then encouraging the disrespect, distortion and mockery of the law to achieve one’s sinister purpose.

The effort to reward illegal immigrants for violating the law is nothing more than a new, twisted form of affirmative action which now seeks to place the unlawful on equal or better footing than the lawful while having the lawful foot the bill. I am personally offended by this latest manipulation of minorities in general and Latinos in particular under the guise of social and political empowerment. How long will minorities tolerate being patted in the head by elitist, closet racist liberals pretending to care while merely expressing their private beliefs that we cannot chew gum and walk at the same time?

    Smoke and Mirrors
As if the continued manipulation of Latinos and other minority groups is not enough, we must witness yet another blatant fraud sold as truth at the hands of liberals and their pet media.

Dr. Weissinger perceptively points out that rewarding illegal immigration is fostering the continuation and perpetuation of lower wages and continued business greed. Businesses only interested in profits constantly seek more vulnerable workers willing to work for less and too scared to complain. Students and lawful workers are ignored as illegal workers are chosen to increase profits and decrease employee hassles.

We are then told by liberals and their media pets that illegal immigrants do work that nobody else wants to, but the truth is that the reason nobody else wants to do this work is precisely because the use of illegal immigrants keeps the pay and rights low. In addition, government corruption and cowardice allows and even promotes a system that makes illegal immigration increasingly attractive and worthwhile.

Dr. Weissinger adds that it is not the government’s inability to remove illegal immigrants that is at issue, but its unwillingness to do so. The bottom line is that if the government made illegal immigration less attractive for illegal immigrants and the businesses that exploit them while actively removing those who do enter unlawful, the present immigration problem would be greatly solved if not eliminated.

Again, the bottom line is that corrupt and cowardly politicians, greedy businesspeople and misguided liberals all want to continue using and abusing illegal immigrants for their selfish social, economic and political purposes, all while pretending to be noble, caring, generous and benevolent saviors and crusaders for the rights of these people.

Offensive to Legal and Illegal Alike
So-called immigration reform that merely seeks to reward illegal immigration is offensive to both illegal and legal immigrants. As stated so often above, it manipulates and patronizes the illegal immigrant by taking advantage of his or her situation for corrupt political, social and economic purposes. In addition, these efforts should be just as offensive to lawful immigrants, for it unjustly and blatantly disregards their lawful status and efforts by either ignoring, equating or, worse still, subjugating them to the unlawful actions of illegal immigrants.

I never cease to be mystified by the sight of lawful immigrants demanding rights for people who are making a mockery of everything those lawful immigrants have achieved via lawful means.

Imagine A students demanding that failing students bet given As without studying. Envision a champion team demanding that a team with a poor record be given a share of the title. If any of this makes sense to you, you must be a liberal who favors illegal immigration under the guise of “immigration reform”.

As a proud Latino immigrant whose immigrant parents struggled to make a better life lawfully, I am personally insulted by the notion that some elitist, hypocritical, greedy, selfish politician wants to declare that those at the back of the line should be escorted past the front, past the ticket booth and into the best seats in the theatre free of charge because “nobody is illegal”, “they have suffered” or “si se puede”. I guess these people think that this is the only way a Latino could ever get into the theatre.

    Three Classes Involved
After living in this world for nearly half of century, I have come to the conclusion that there are three kinds of people in this society. The first kind wants to earn what they get, figuring that this is the only way that what they get will really mean anything to them or those around them. These people realize the American Dream is about earned success, self-sufficiency, independence and personal responsibility. They do not want to reach their goals on the backs of others, nor do they want to be saddled with social, moral, political or economic debts that they cannot pay. Their main wish is to make a mark in this world, and leave it a better place for their children.

The second kind, however, want everything handed to them. They seek special favors, loopholes, shortcuts and easy rides. Deep down, these people do not believe in themselves or their nation. They believe that the American Dream is an American Scheme about getting over and using the system. They do not mind being dependent and rarely take personal responsibility for anything, preferring to blame everyone and everything else for their failures and troubles.

Rather than avoiding the backs of others, they demand them, only thinking of how to use people for their selfish aims. They do not mind chaining themselves to social, moral, political or economic debts, either because they do not intend to pay them or because they have little if any personal integrity, responsibility or sincerity. Their main wish is to get as much out of this world as they can get, and some of them care little about the future.

As tragic and pathetic as the second class may be, the third class is far more sinister, insidious, vile and destructive to this society and this nation. This third class manipulates the second class to achieve its benefits. These people pretend to be champions, protectors, defenders and crusaders for the interests of the second class even as they patronize and abuse them.

They encourage the second class to remain in its tragic state so as to continue to take advantage of them, and entice them to mock and attack the first class under the mantle of resentment, defiance, envy and even hatred. This third class promotes conflict between the first and second class so as to reap the benefits. Like the second class, this third class is selfish and greedy but, unlike that class, it is far more devious, sophisticated and sinister in its tactics.

I will leave you, kind reader, to determine which class represents conservatives, liberals and those people whose weaknesses are manipulated.

    Entitlement is Not Respect
Somewhere along the line we have been sold the lie that entitlement and handouts are good things. Liberals perpetuate these lies to validate their programs and agenda based on victimization and championing the so-called causes of such victims. I agree, however, with Bob Parks, who argues that liberals are closet racists who think that Latinos are too stupid to get very far without Spanish signs and federally funded assistance programs.

Any good parent knows that if one simply gives things to one’s kids without fostering a sense of responsibility and earned achievement, one will breed irresponsibility, reliance and passivity.

The best way to keep someone under one’s thumb is to encourage him or her to stay there by making that spot too comfortable. It is nice to have people feeling sorry for you and giving you things while going on and on about how much you have suffered and how unfair life can be.

Come to think of it, it is also nice to have someone seeing you as his or her champion, defender and savior and promising undying gratitude and debt in money, support and votes.

Children are taught not to accept candy from strangers seeking God knows what else. When will minorities in general and Latinos in particular learn not to accept candy from liberals seeking money and votes?

    Conclusion
The philosopher Confucius is quoted as saying “respect yourself and others will respect you.”

It is time for Latinos and all minorities in this country to realize that the only way that we will truly gain the sincere respect of this society is to earn what we get just as everyone else does, which many of us have already done and will continue to do.

It serves none of us any good to defend, perpetuate, promote, justify, rationalize or even associate ourselves with illegal immigration. It belittles our intelligence, objectivity, common sense and sense of justice to allow ourselves to be perceived as mindless, clueless, biased cheerleaders for unlawful conduct merely because of common language, heritage or culture with those who commit such unlawful conduct.

If we want this society to truly respect us and take our views seriously, we must make sure that those views are based on more than superficial political, social, economic or moral rhetoric ignorant of justice, common sense and fairness. We must make it clear that our positions carry the weight of reasoned, objective analysis and not some knee-jerk, cultural, social or national visceral reaction. Above all, we must not fall prey to the tired tale of victimization and defiance so often spewed by those who precisely most stand to benefit from such a stance.

It is time for American Latinos and all minorities to demonstrate to all that we do indeed have a sense of patriotism, pride, fairness, common sense and objective, reasoned analysis and are not merely sheep ready, willing and able to be herded in any direction by those hypocrites who would pretend to truly care about our interests.

Time will tell if we can achieve this respect, for every time a Latino allows illegal immigration to be lumped with legal immigration or the rule of law to be mocked in the interest of arrogant whim, we take a step back from that goal. Worst of all, every time we paint all objections to illegal immigration as merely so much prejudice, intolerance, fear and hatred, we only serve to foster the perception that our eyes, minds and hearts are clouded by the blood that runs through our veins.

It is time to stop being reactive victims protesting injustice under the watchful, approving eyes of closet racists, greedy manipulators and political hypocrites. This is the time and this is the issue where Latinos can demonstrate that we have finally arrived; objectively, patriotically and legally.

If Mayor Funkmeister was elected by the northland and the Ward Parkway corridor crowd, why should he feel in debt with those who were unable and impotent to deliver on their commitments?

John Fierro is getting a lot of "flak" from the "hispanic community" for stating he can work with Frances Semler. My guess is that he's already told them that their they've overplayed their hand and should tone it down before this unusual event lands in the National news stage.

While Illegal drugs don't necessarily come from Mexico, Black Tar Heroin is and has been an export of theirs. It is being displaced from second place by Methamphetamines made in "super-labs" and ferried over by illegal alien "mules. The king of illegal drug exports from Mexico continuesto be the relativeley harmless "mota" or what the Jamaican posses called "Ganja"

An even more troublesome export from that thirdworld cleptocracy is the ease with which lies and innuendo are used to engage in character assassination, as the present cse so well displays.

  35. Now this makes me wonder if you're from KC, Legal Hispanic. Are you?

Funkhouser had 67 percent of the Hispanic vote in Kansas City.

La Raza political club also endorsed Mayor Funkhouser.

So, you're actually looking at people protesting who formerly supported the Mayor and at the press conference they stated that they still wanted to work with him.

Also, you're talk about COHO being "illegal" makes you seem crazy. COHO often hosts members of law enforcement from throughout the metro area at their meetings.

More and more it seems you don't know a lot about this community? Are you from Kansas City?

  37. Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha... If you mean born in KC, no. I was born in a Hispanic environment and English was my #2 language... I've been here a few decades and enjoyed lunch yesterday at the Mongolian joint off of 39th and State Line and do some of my hardware Home Depot on Main so I can also knock off groceries at Costco.

Let me quote Tony on this. On 2/28/07, in his blog, Tony wote: "ANYWAY . . . If you watched the election results closely what you might have seen is that White people voted for Funkhouser and Black people voted for Brooks in Kansas City. Just as I predicted, this is an election that's going to break down along racial lines. The (white) Northland voted for Funkhouser en masse and every Black person in town (non felon) turned out for Brooks as well." So I guess that with Tony's mom in a race, he'd have a firm pulse on that count and maybe the Hispanic vote was mor of a garnish than a main course.

What we may have is a bunch of political hucksters trying to extort concessions from an increasingly independent mayor.

Does COHO organizations aid illegal aliens? Don't give me the blather that they don't ask. If I can tell just by talking with them, these social activists probably can tell too. So if they provide help to illegals, and aiding and abetting ilegal aliens is a federal crime punishable by jail and fines, I believe the crazy one must be the U.S. Code.

Nice try, but I believe you may be more than a bit concerned and outgunned. When I get out this AM, I may go to breakfast at Dagwoods, or maybe Napoleon's. Se-ya; Cha-cha.

  38. la raza is just as radical as the minute men except they are against the whites. John handle hisself with professional pride and the hispanics seem to punish him like hes an uncle tom. to be tonys mom is upset because funkhouser hasnt called her and begged her to become a board member of her choosing. i admire john for at least giving everyone a chance who knows maybe this will work out. so it seems to me that la raza is upset with the mayor because he hasnt picked who they want on the board. what does that say about john. as far as the old park board goes they were too many of them getting free tee times on the golf course and free tickets to the star light. anyone ever wonder who is behind all of this anyway????

Somewhere in hell, George Wallace and Huey Newton smile approvingly at how well KC's Hispanic "leaders" have learned their lessons on suppression and Political Machine Politics. Maybe COHO should be renamed the KC Hispanic Tammany Hall Club.
