An interesting story about social dynamics and the crack trade leaves me thinking that I don't feel sorry for anybody when it comes to the parties directly involved in a cocaine deal gone wrong:
Two small-town women allegedly drove to Kansas City to buy crack cocaine, got into a gunbattle with a dealer and killed him.Why anyone would have any sympathy for small town crackheads is beyond me . . . I can only assume they're probably white but the story doesn't say one way or the other . . . Additionally, I can't think of anything more emotionally draining than crying over an alleged crack dealing son . . . Well, it's also pretty hard to find parking downtown so I guess that makes me cry sometimes too.
They were charged with murder.
But on Friday, one of them pleaded guilty to attempted drug trafficking and received a five-year sentence.
Prosecutors said they dropped murder charges because of evidence of self-defense.
Michelle M. Grundmeier, 18, of Frontenac, Kan., pleaded guilty to the drug charge and was sentenced Friday in Jackson County Circuit Cour . . . The women said they shot Arthur L. Taylor, 27, after he tried to rob them on or about Jan. 20, 2006. They dumped his body in the street near 46th Street and Park Avenue, they said.
Police said they found Taylor’s body with a large amount of crack cocaine on it.
