The TKC Saturday Night Podcast: Songs referring to and regarding Jesus

Tonight's podcast is dedicated to songs for and about Jesus. Additionally, I couldn't have put this list together without a Google search that brought up a great post by "Mocking Music" on the subject of songs dedicated to the Son of Man along with a few suggestions by lastfm user phriedphishphan . . . You're going to have to forgive me because I don't have anything profound to write on the subject (which is pretty much always the case) other than to note that this year's perfunctory Springtime religious showdown in the media even attempted to sully the good name of chocolate because people were fighting about the appropriate depictions of the Prince of Peace . . . Which should only make sense to you if you went to Catholic school or think that God is still on the side of George W. Bush.

But I digress . . . Easter isn't about politics, or chocolate or even the Easter bunny and his many Internet interpretations (which already seem dated). Also, I should probably note that there are variety of ways to spend your Easter in Kansas City that mostly revolve around cholesterol heavy eggs and hopefully non-toxic chemical dye.

Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you what Easter IS about because I can't say for certain given the fact that religion class was right after lunch when I was a kid and I was always late because the nuns didn't let me leave the cafeteria until I was finished washing tables for my sins or for whatever it was/is for which all poor, brown kids are deemed guilty.

Nevertheless, I've always liked Easter because it's during a hopeful time of year and I don't buy any of that garbage about the holiday taking place in lieu of a pagan festival any more than I would believe all of that weird stuff that stoners tell you about the back of a dollar bill or the strange tales about the freemasons and the founding fathers.

Anyway, the point here is that a great deal of my cultural upbring was centered around Jesus . . . Or so they tell me, I was usually busy watching cartoons when the conversations stared to drag . . . Still, I've always enjoyed Easter weekend because it means that I get to spend time with my family AND I don't feel so guilty about eating ham . . . And I'm sure that Jesus will forgive my lack of understanding or comprehension of his holiday not only because I don't know anybody who really has a good handle on the whole "mystical transubstantiation" thing but also because He seems like a pretty cool guy who describes himself as a "thief in the night" and has a myspace page.

Thank you for reading this week and have a happy, safe and fun Easter weekend. God Bless.
