Janovy sends her love letter to Mark Funkhouser and sticks her head in the sand in typical white liberal, hipster fashion as she puts forth this out of touch conclusion: Don't be fooled: This mayoral election has nothing to do with race. Also, in any negotiation: When somebody says something doesn't matter . . . It usually does.

CJ likes to write confusing columns. This is one. I think she's trying to say this race has everything to do with race, but nothing to do with the racial make up of the two candidates. She seems to say Alvin hasn't been a successful advocate for racial equality in city spending while serving in City Hall.
