Greg Reeves: KC's best blogger

Okay, here's the deal . . . I feel horrible now that Greg Reeves is giving up the blog and his job at the Star due to a medical situation . . . I was looking forward to berating the guy for years to come . . . Who knows, maybe he'll get a private blog and I can continue to hassle him. During the time that Crime Scene KC has been around, Reeves has shepherded the page through tremendous success and when he was absent it was clear that the fill-in's just didn't have his chops. His blog has earned one award after the next, garnered national recognition and created a community of readers whereas I had some nasty 70 year-old dude send me nude pics a couple of months ago that still give me nightmares to this day. A brief aside: So many people in town have taken note of Reeves' efforts . . . I remember crying and getting pouty like French woman when I spotted a 2 page spread (ew) devoted to Reeves in KC Magazine last year.

I'd like to take this moment to note that I liked competing against him (he always won), I liked annoying him and I'll definitely miss him . . . While I don't believe in any of that sentimental "bon voyage" garbage . . . I will say that I've always been impressed with Reeves because when one nasty post followed the next from me, he never even acknowledged my stupid little joke blog . . . And that's the kind of discipline that I've rarely seen from other publications, political campaigns or small business owners who seem to think that the jabs I throw make a difference to anyone.

So, I'm really just writing this for myself but I guess I'd like to note that I wish Greg Reeves all the best and I can only hope there might be a day in the future when I'm able to harass and belittle him once again.

he will be missed.

Miss what, Jazo? His complete lack of interest in covering crime. His great ability to cut and paste a fifty word post from a sixty word press release? His inability to add anything insightful to a discussion? The way he panders to an audience that, like him, has no real interest in the subject he covers? Some people will overlook the faults because of perceived popularity confused for success. At least Tony gives us his opinion. Greg Reeves has been nothing but a shill for the Star and its advertisers. Mr. Reeves managed to attracted one of the shallowist reader bases I have encountered on local blogs.

OTOH, Greg's penchant of an unhealthy obsession about sex 'crimes' is right up the alley you and Tony like.

I'll miss his involvement lem. I'm not going to refute anything else you said. This is not a large community here you know.

He did nothing to enlarge the demographic of this 'community'. His involvement was seemingly ego-oriented and absolugtely unfocused. I would miss a pothole with more affection. Personally, I think this 'community' is held back by the vaccuous and disingenuous journalism exhibited by KC Crime Scene and TKC. This clique of bloggers is little more than a descriminatory social fraternity more interested in trying to play politics and partying-on than truly tackling important social and community issues. It could be more.

On another note... I found a recording for you of Mussourgski's 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. A live recording from 1972 of that seminal rock trio Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

I agree.

Also, if you feel that you can do better than please, please by all means start a blog of your own.

See how much interest it attracts.

Be the guiding light of online journalism for Kansas City!!!

You can do it.

Also, I love you.

I never claimed to be a journalist nor do I have the time or the inclination to fight what has become the local blog 'establishment' with my own insignificant, irrellevant and irresponsible remarks akin to a school girl's diary. If everybody is blogging no one is listening. As for attracting comments, I attract as many comments as you do through my participation on your blog.
