The race is not always to the swift but sometimes to the most inane and irrelevant or at least that's what happens to politicos when the promise to play nice. I make no such guarantees and I promise that this blog will stay as nasty and mean as possible. Also, there is probably some other race analogy I could come up with but I find that most local bloggers are already smart enough to know that this thing is going to come down to Black and white and what part of town a voter lives in . . . One KC? Heh, not by a long shot unless you're talking about the one dividing line (Troost) that this down has that splits Kansas City in two in terms of culture, votes and crime . . . On the bright side, because I'm all about solutions, City Services are horrible everywhere and both sides are agreed that they'd like fewer Mexicans . . . But I digress.
Today the Star reports that both Brooks and Funkhouser have pledged to run positive campaigns which means that we won't hear anything that matters from either one of them.
The Citizens Association is going with Brooks which is a huge deal because it means that 12 of the 3 dozen people who vote in Kansas City will not listen to any kind of debate and mindlessly support the asinine views of some outdated organization rather than come to their own misguided opinions.
I don't care if the campaigning is positive or negative as long as the issues are addressed and the TRUTH is told. If one of the candidates does something, say spits on homeless people, I want to know about it.
ReplyDeleteThe CA endorsing Brooks makes me voting for Funk all the more certain.
Couldn't agree more. Positive campaigns are bad campaigns. There's irresponsible negativity (the Jeff Roe kind) and there's contrasting negative campaigns, which inform voters.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the Star's editorial staff can't seem to pull its collective head out of its collective ass, it's hard to imagine how voters will actually learn anything about the candidates if the they don't attack each other.
It's not like no one ever criticizes the mayor, so why shouldn't we see how they handle themselves under attack? Isn't that part of the job?
Oh, and Michelle, as soon as Funkhouser starts telling the truth about where he actually stands on anything he's ever said in the past, then we can talk.
anonymous, if that's your real name. :-)
ReplyDeleteif your waiting for people to tell the truth then you might not ever vote again.
seek and ye shall find the truth.
I want to see all of the stuff on the young girl that the councilmen were talking all hush hush about and how her mother was going to take care of the "indiscression" until some preacher intervened. Where is Becky when we need her to blow the whistle. Does she have a get even mailout that Roe will send out when the new campaign gets going?
ReplyDeleteWe now live in Bizarro World.
ReplyDeleteThe black candidate is more likely to keep up the status quo and, ya know, actually build things downtown and across the city.
The liberal candidate supported by the morningside/brookside crowd is a penny-pincher who says that we need to stop trying to be a national or even regional city and 'be like Prairie Village'.
I moved to the city to be away from the damn suburbs.
People are also really ignorant if they think balancing a city's budget is something that should be of even the smallest concern to voters. There are 2 levels of government available to bail them out if they mismanage. It happens about once a decade in most major cities.
People can scream Jeff Roe all they want, but that 'attack ad' was a direct quote of Ming the Merciless.
